  The Provo City Council is looking for an intern to assist the Executive Director and the Council in a variety of assignments and administrative projects. The internship will begin May 2024.

  Application Review Process: Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted. Position may close prior to the posted date if sufficient, qualified applicants to proceed with a competitive selection process are received. Applicants must meet the minimum requirements listed below to be eligible for consideration.

  Pay Rate: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour (depending on experience)

  Essential Duties:

  Providing support to the Municipal Council with responsibilities for legislation, appropriations, and oversight.

  Providing policy analysis covering a wide variety of City programs, projects, and budgets.

  Making recommendations and assisting in designing new programs or processes.

  Maintaining required records.

  Receiving and reviewing requests.

  Assisting in and performing basic and general research and analysis with general direction to acquire specialized knowledge.

  Refining information for presentations.

  Conducting and attend meetings; writing and submitting various reports.

  Collecting and analyzing data.

  Communicating findings.

  Evaluating programs and policies.

  Reviewing budgets; drafting reports, policies, and legislation.

  Perform other related duties as required.

  Minimum Requirements:

  Must be enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program related to political science, public administration, planning, or another related field.

  Must have strong analytical and writing skills and be able to conduct research and exercise independent judgment.

  Valid, lawful driver license is required at time of appointment. Applicant may be disqualified on the basis of an unacceptable driving record as reflected by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.

  Schedule/Duration : Approximately 40 hours per week through the Summer and 20 hours per week during the school year.

  Physical/Environmental Factors: This work requires remaining seated at a computer or desk for extended periods; frequent exposure to computers, electronics, electrical devices, noise, paper dust, toner, etc. Position may also require exposure to high stress situations or environments, including contact with the public in confrontational or uncomfortable circumstances.

  Pre-employment Testing: Prior to appointment, applicant will be required to successfully pass a drug screening and background investigation. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six 6 months.
