DUTIES: These duties involve responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of trucks and various types of road maintenance and construction equipment. Employees are also required to closely monitor the operation of equipment, report necessary repairs to the Shop Manager and perform routine maintenance involving lubrication and maintaining liquid levels. The work is performed under general supervision in accordance with established policies and procedures. General instructions are received regarding routine work and detailed or specific instructions are received regarding new or unusual assignments. Supervision may be exercised over the work of subordinate employees. Employees may be required to perform manual road and bridge work as needed. A Motor Equipment Operator I does related work as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must meet all requirements described in the following tablein order to be approved for examination and/or appointment:Qualification Option # 1 2Training/Education: None required.General experience: Six months of full-time paid experience in the operation of light automotive equipmentSupervisory experience - None required.
1.License/ Certification - Possession of a valid New York State Class B2 commercial driver's license.Possession of a valid New York State Class B commercial permit.Other requirements - See Special Qualifications below.Part-time service will be given prorated credit toward experience requirements. -Light automotive equipment, for the purposes of these minimum qualifications includes, pickup truck, pickup truck snowplows, small rollers, small wheel loaders, 1-ton utility trucks, small flatbed or dump trucks, 40-HP or larger tractor mowers, or forklift.
2 A Class A commercial motor vehicle driver's license may be substituted for a Class B commercial motor vehicle driver's license.
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: 1.) Applicants appointed under Option 1 must possess or obtain within 60 calendar days of appointment a commercial motor vehicle driver's license endorsement for tank.2.) Applicants appointed under Option 2 will be required to obtain their commercial motor vehicle driver's license with an endorsement for tank within 12 months of appointment.3.) Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds.4.) Appropriate licensure, with necessary endorsements, must be maintained throughout employment (NYS Transportation Law 140 (2)(c)).5.) A driving record evidencing safe and responsible vehicle operation is required. 6.) Must authorize and execute any necessary releases to enable the appointing authority to verify licensure and driving history involving violations and/or crimes.
