About Motor Equipment Mechanic IV - Fleet Division, Neponset

  The Department of Conservation and Recreation manages one of the largest and most diverse state parks systems in the nation and protects and enhances natural resources and outdoor recreational opportunities throughout Massachusetts. The DCR system includes over 450,000 acres of parks, forests, water supply protection lands, beaches, lakes, ponds, playgrounds, swimming pools, skating rinks, golf courses, trails and parkways. The Department of Conservation and Recreation seeks applicants for the position of Motor Equipment Mechanic IV, Fleet Division, Boston Region, 475 Neponset Ave, Dorchester. The Motor Equipment Mechanic IV supervises the region's garage and assists in repairing, overhauling and servicing automobiles, motor trucks, tractors, and other motor-driven machinery owned by the state; estimates cost of repairs, requisitions parts and supplies, and keeps records of work done. The Motor Equipment Mechanic IV supervises the other Motor Equipment Mechanics in the garage. Duties: -Consult with vehicle or equipment operators, manufacturers, or dealers to obtain information needed to diagnose and correct problems with malfunctioning engines or related systems, such as super-chargers and turbo-chargers -Inspect heavy equipment to select and locate causes of equipment breakdown. -Perform field inspections and evaluations of various types of vehicles and equipment statewide and may recommend disposal of vehicles. -Research, develop, design, fabricate and oversee the manufacture of special application components and their installation to improve the operation of existing equipment. -Recommend adjustments to specifications for new vehicles and equipment. -Maintain inventory of parts and supplies by ordering the supplies, tools and equipment required to expedite maintenance and repair work of motor vehicles and equipment. -Direct and assign repair work to be performed. -Interview, test and evaluate applicants for employment and promotion, and supervise training. -Responsible for implementation of the Preventative Maintenance program. -Inspect and certify equipment for operation. -Assist in the purchase, disposal and registration of motor vehicles. -Troubleshoot and road test motor vehicles and equipment such as automobiles, trucks, buses, bulldozers, cranes and snowblowers to determine the repair work needed to be done. -Supervise vehicle maintenance and repair garage. -Repair motor vehicles and equipment by overhauling, rebuilding, replacing or adjusting gasoline or diesel engines, carburetors, distributors, alternators, generators, starters, differentials and transmissions according to manufacturers' specifications. -Service vehicles and equipment by changing and repairing tires, adjusting brakes and cleaning and lubricating parts as needed to ensure their optimum working order. -Repair and overhaul electrical circuits and units including all warning light circuits, arrowboards, electronic spreader circuits, electric motor circuits and electric solenoid circuits. -Perform body repairs, windshield and window replacements. -Enters data into FleetWave management system as requested by management. -Calls in needed repairs and preventative maintenance needs to fleet to open work orders. -Works directly with Chief Maintenance Mechanic in all aspects of the position. -Ensures approvals are in place before repairs or maintenance begins. -Schedule vehicle service with Divisional staff. -Other duties as directed by management. LICENSEAND/ORCERTIFICATIONREQUIRMENTS Must possess a current and valid Massachusetts 2A hoisting license issued by the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety. Must possess a current and valid CDL license. Safety Sensitive Positions such as the Motor Equipment Mechanic IV require that the employee participate in the DCR Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Program Policy and be subject to a Pre-placement and Random DOT Drug and Alcohol testing. First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days. * * Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least (A) four years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in the repair, maintenance and overhaul of automobiles, trucks, bulldozers, cranes, front end loaders, etc. of which (B) at least two years must have been in a supervisory capacity, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below. Substitutions: I. A certificate or diploma from a recognized trade, technical or vocational school at the high school level or above with a major in automotive shop practice may be substituted for one year of the required (A) experience. Special Requirements: Based on assignment: 1. Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class B Motor Vehicle Operator's License. 2.
