We are looking for a talented Mechatronics Engineering Manager to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Components Business Segment in Rochester Hills, MI / your remote home office.

This developing technical leadership position develops and delivers technical talent in a research, technology or product development environment.
Directly manages the resources that maximize workgroup productivity in support of business needs and implements near term business strategies with a focus on execution.
The position also includes maintaining strong working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders both within the technical function and across the broader business.
Primary responsibility is the development of technically capable people often across multiple technical sites within a business unit or corporate, and making these people available to perform duties necessary to satisfy the businesses technical needs.
Provides problem resolution leadership for complex systems with a high degree of ambiguity and often global business impact; helps get teams in place.
Leads the development and improvement of work processes and systems across function(s) within a global business unit or managing improvement across business units.
Coaches and mentors employees to provide guidance and direction on resolving problems, technical know-how, removing barriers to progress and career path planning. Assesses performance and provides feedback to direct reports.
Creates, manages, improves and applies work processes involving activities such as resource allocation and management, organizational and business change, customer/stakeholder management and knowledge management; all used for the purposes of enabling high quality decision making that meets business expectations.
Decisions made in this role may include resource deployment cost and timing allocations, project prioritization, personnel staffing, and Annual Operating Plan (AOP) management, the result of which can impact project cost and delivery within a site or across several sites within a business unit.
Establishes employee performance standards; works collaboratively to set goals and address areas of deficiency.

Product Development Execution, Monitoring and Control - Plans, schedules, coordinates and executes the activities involved in developing a product to a respectively aligned hierarchy of requirements and technical profiles; monitors and communicates across functional boundaries to meet project resource and quality expectations; ensures product capability meets or exceeds expectations and takes mitigating actions when project risks are higher than expected; understands the full product life cycle process and stakeholders.
Product Verification and Validation Management - Develops product systems validation plans from a variety of inputs to identify failure modes, while managing product risk and relative priority; negotiates product requirements against capability to guide project scope; evaluates analytical, simulation and physical test results to verify product capability and validate requirements; assesses legacy versus proposed system solution capabilities and produces recommendations with technical documentation to support product decisions.
System Requirements Engineering - Uses appropriate methods and tools to translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements to which designs are developed; establishes acceptance criteria for the system of interest through analysis, allocation and negotiation; tracks the status of requirements throughout the system lifecycle; assesses the impact of changes to system requirements on project scope, schedule, and resources; creates and maintains information linkages to related artifacts.

Education, Licenses, Certifications
College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or appropriate STEM field is required.
Post-graduate (Master's) degree relevant to this discipline area may be required for select roles.
This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience
Prior Technical Specialist or entry level Technical/Engineering Management equivalent work experience in a product, technology or engineering service role with demonstrated success leading projects and influencing outcomes through either direct or indirect reporting relationships. Must have a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving, quality decision making, providing technical direction and leadership to a project team(s) and conflict resolution.
The primary responsibility of this position is to lead a multifunctional team of Electrical, Mechanical, Software and Controls Engineers in the conceptualization, prototype development, test validation and production handoff of innovative Mechatronic Systems and electronic products used on commercial vehicles.
This position will be part of the Cummins-Meritor Global Advanced Engineering Group and will have emphasis in Braking Systems, Drive Axles Systems, Suspensions Systems, Tire Inflation Systems, and other new adjacent products.
This person will interface with customers, suppliers, test labs, manufacturing facilities, and internal engineering groups within Cummins-Meritor and Cummins to provide support for product strategy through product innovation, with focus on sensors and electronic devices for performance monitoring systems, as well as electro-pneumatic and electro-mechanical systems and products.
Lead team to effectively perform engineering analysis necessary for the product conceptualization, testing and production handoff of sensors and electronic devices for performance monitoring systems, as well as electro-pneumatic and electro-mechanical products and systems.
Work with cross functional teams to create product & systems requirements.
Drive definition and selection of electronic system architecture.
Work with the Cummins Software and Electronics division to drive the development of sensors and electronic control units.
Develop control models in a model-based development environment using Matlab/Simulink.
Manage all aspects of engineering products according to customer requirements with focus on coordinating project timing, costs, test plans and prototype builds.
Create DFMEA, FTA, DVP&R, HARA and other supporting documents to meet required specifications such as ISO26262 and others.
Troubleshoot issues and testing systems on benches, dynos and in vehicles.
Train team members, and drive upgrade of internal capabilities, solutions and tools.
Monitor project status and budget and provide updates to stakeholders.
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics engineering or related field required (MSE strongly desired), with minimum of 10 years of direct, practical experience. This should include:
2 years of experience as a technical team leader.
Experience in development of mechatronic devices
Experience with modeling and simulation tools like Matlab/Simulink, PowerSim, TruckSim
Experience with functional safety requirements per ISO26262
Leadership in engineering tool creation and maintenance (DFMEA, DVP&R, etc.)
Excellent communication and leadership skills are a must.
Creative thinker, strong leadership skills, self-starter, knowledgeable, strategic thinker.
Ability to manage several projects simultaneously with appropriate balance of delegating responsibility and staying involved to ensure projects on track.
Preferred experience:
Telemetry: use of sensing technologies to monitor product features and performance.
Experience with electronic controlled systems such as Electronic Braking Systems (EBS), ABS (Anti-Lock Braking Systems) and Electronic Steering Systems, or other smart automotive systems.
Compensation and Benefits
Base salary range $121,600.00-182,400.00. Base salary rate will be commensurate with experience. Additional benefits vary between locations and include options such as our 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan, Cash Balance Pension Plan, Medical/Dental/Life Insurance, Health Savings Account, Domestic Partners Coverage and a full complement of personal and professional benefits.Cummins and E-verify
