The Role
The Department E11 SSNX Electrical Systems team is looking for a talented leader to support the development of the next generation fast attack submarine, SSN(X). This is an opportunity to get in at the beginning of a new design that will become the Navy's premier attack submarine platform. This Engineering Manager 2 position will engage in all aspects of Development of the electrical distribution system, including project management, oversight for the planning, requirements, development, test, quality, & configuration management. The successful candidate will lead a team to assist the Navy in establishing the next submarine design to meet challenging requirements while balancing technical development risk and cost.
This role provides project and technical leadership for complex multi-disciplinary, multi-organizational design in support of SSNX electrical distribution system. The M2 will provides leadership and guidance to NNS, Government and Industry Partners throughout system concept, design, development, prototype, testing and final production. The successful candidate will be responsible to ensure that final design of SSNX electrical distribution system systems/components meet all specified and derived requirements.
Must Have
Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience.
Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Nice to Have
• Shipboard power systems design experience (Hardware/Software integration and reading & understanding electrical schematics, electrical analysis) desired.
• Technical leadership desired
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Visio) at 2007 or above
• Self-motivated & able to prioritize and lead multiple teams and projects autonomously
• High degree of organizational skills and attention to detail
• Proven communication and engagement leadership skills
• Strong verbal and excellent writing skills and a demonstrated ability to develop written process documentation
• MS Degree in a relevant field is a plus. (Electrical, Mechanical, or others)
• Project management skills valuable. Project Management Institute certification valuable.
