Job Summary
The Project Manager/Metadata Specialist will manage and coordinate allaspects of the NEH-funded project \'Expanding Chicago\'s MesoamericanLanguage Collections.\' The grant funded project expands the UChicagoLibrary\'s Mesoamerican Language Collections (MLC) by building aworkflow for accessioning new materials to the MLC and then acquiringnew and novel deposits to our existing collections of audio recordings,published materials, unpublished manuscripts, and language instructionmaterials relating to indigenous languages. Internally, the ProjectManager will help design the workflow by developing depositor guidelinesfor metadata and digitization standards; using sample deposits toestimate depositor and staff effort in time and monetary resources forprocessing different content and media types; and developingpublic-facing documentation on the MLC website to convey the guidelinesand effort estimates. Externally, the Project Manager will overseedeposits by interfacing with both academic- and community-baseddepositors; convening meetings and workshops with Library staff andothers to address various issues; and supporting outreach and publicityto relevant donors and users.
Responsibilities
Coordinate between project personnel and staff in Technical Serviceswho are responsible for cataloging policies and practices that mightintersect with the work of the project, technical staff from theLibrary\'s Digital Library Development Center who are responsiblefor building the online portal, and archivists in SpecialCollections who handle manuscript deposits.Coordinate and manage the overall workflow of the project toaccomplish all the project goals, including creating documentationand timelines, problem solving, coordinating with stakeholders, andensuring that the project aligns with best practices for thehandling of heritage collections.Work with depositors to prepare materials for deposit and, whererelevant, supervise student workers and interns helping individualdepositors.Supervise the project\'s metadata work by working with staff anddepositors to create, apply, enhance and standardize metadatarecords.Work with faculty and graduate students with domain expertise toidentify materials from unknown languages and locations, flagcopyright and ethical issues, and do other research that will informthe creation of catalog records or the functionality of the onlineportal.Interacts with faculty, researchers and staff for committee work orinformation.Uses general understanding and experience to administer the deliveryof services t program participants and/or beneficiaries.Performs other related work as needed.Minimum Qualifications
