JOB REQUIREMENTS: Position Description: The Mentor position isresponsible for the day-to-day implementation of the activitiesscheduled for the Apprenticeship in Medicine program\'s six-week summercurriculum for high school students of diverse backgrounds. The purposeof the program is to increase the number of persons from diversebackgrounds in medicine and other health care professions. This positionassists in providing a variety of \"hands-on\" clinical experiences tostudents to gain an understanding and appreciation of common, importantmedical problems that have an impact on their community. Qualifiedcandidates must be culturally sensitive and able to work with a diversehigh school student population; and must have a serious interest in theacademic development of youth. DIMENSIONS This position\'sresponsibilities are performed at the Medical College of Wisconsin.There will be a team of medical students serving as mentors that will beresponsible for supervising a minimum of 20 high school students. TheMentor position is a seven (7) week summer position that includes one(1) week of preparation time prior to the start of the program.Preferred Schedule: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through FridayPosition Requirements: MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Education: Theposition requires a minimum of one completed year of medical educationat the Medical College of Wisconsin. Experience: Prior experience in aneducational setting, tutoring, preparation of lesson plans or classroomteaching is highly desirable. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES The abilityto communicate effectively with a broad range of individuals isessential. Must be able to work in team setting with other mentors,faculty and immediate supervisor. Must possess strong organization andplanning skills with a keen attention to detail. Familiarity with wordprocessing software programs and other office equipment includingcopiers and fax machines is essential.
