As a Member Technical Staff - DevEx Infrastructure/LCM at Nutanix, your role will be to handle escalated customer problems on a day-to-day basis as a Sustaining Engineer. You will be a vital part of our mission to maintain Nutanix's high industry standard NPS score by providing excellent engineering assistance alongside our support organization to our valued customers. Engineering / R&D at Nutanix
The Dev-Extension team (“DevEx” for short) at Nutanix is a 60+ person team located primarily in the US and India. They play a crucial role in maintaining a high NPS score by solving and root causing challenging customer problems at a code level. The entire company admires their successes, and they have been often recognized in multiple R&D All Hands. Your Role
Work as a part of the extended software development team on Software Features/Bugs
Address Customer Escalations to Engineering
Diagnose and debug deep and insidious issues. Provide workaround and fixes for those issues
Develop automation tools to find bottlenecks and do root cause analysis and corrective action
Engage with customers and support when needed to solve production issues
Develop a deep understanding of complex distributed systems, and design innovative solutions for customer requirements
Work on Infrastructure areas like cluster and node bring up, hardware management, system resources, kernel level issues and networking
Work on the Life Cycle Manager that is responsible for software and firmware upgrades, and their compatibility and deployment across both storage infrastructure and management clusters
Work closely with SW Development, QA, Documentation and Product Management teams apart from other DevEx teams to deliver high-quality products in a fast-paced environment
Program in Linux environment and employ robust software engineering practices to develop and maintain reliable, field-serviceable, and maintainable software components
What You Will Bring
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field required with 4-6 yrs of industry experience
Love of programming and rock-solid experience in one or more languages: C, C++, or Python, ideally for enterprise-quality software
Extensive knowledge of UNIX/Linux or expertise in Windows
Development experience in file systems, operating systems, hypervisors, networking, distributed systems management
Experience working with virtualization technologies like Linux KVM, VMware, Hyper-V, Xen (KVM and VMware preferred)
Familiarity with OS internals, concepts of distributed data management, and design/implementation tradeoffs in building clustered, high- performance, fault-tolerant distributed systems software
Strong written, verbal, and collaboration skills
Team player that works well in fast-paced situations and startup environments

Meet Dheeraj - Hiring Manager
I have been working at Nutanix since August 2014, primarily on the Infrastructure side but also in areas like lifecycle management, hardware platforms and microservices. Prior to Nutanix, I worked at Brocade in the enterprise networking area for 12 years where I focused on Multicast routing/switching.
In my professional background, apart from code development, I’ve been involved in sustaining work for the better part of 20 years. During this time I’ve learned to handle complex product level issues that span multiple areas, which forced me to learn new fields as well as be able to work with different personalities - always with the focus of resolving customer problems, root causing them, ensuring product and documentation improvements, and training associated teams with the learnings.
We are looking for passionate candidates who have past experience in troubleshooting distributed systems environments, are knowledgeable about virtualization in general, and are willing to learn something new every day.

How we work
We work in a hybrid style, letting everyone in the team decide on their preferred work location. Some of our team members enjoy remote work, while others like the office environment. We are trying to minimize the number of meetings and nurture the culture of writing and sharing documents, which helped us achieve a more flexible schedule and transparent knowledge sharing. We also have weekly Nutanix lunch days that are a great opportunity to connect in person with the team and other colleagues.
The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between USD $128,000 and USD $258,000 per year.
However, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
