Hungry, Humble, Honest, with Heart!
The Opportunity
We are currently looking for adept machine learning scientists/engineers who are hungry to trail-blaze enterprise AI adoption with expertise in compact large language models and low-touch deployment on distributed infrastructure. If this excites you and you are ready to venture outside your comfort zone, join us in building enterprise-ready LLM services from scratch. As you apply for this job, you'll be considered for our current and future ML roles.
Nutanix AI (NAI) streamlines the deployment of AI workloads and facilitates the development of applications from the ground up, leveraging a suite of open-source libraries and models. Key to our offering is the "Nutanix GPT-in-a-Box," a specialized solution designed to simplify the deployment process. Additionally, NAI provides robust support for the development of large language model (LLM)-based applications at a production scale. This includes, but is not limited to, use cases encompassing chat interfaces and automated code generation. Beyond these services, our team is actively involved in a range of advanced LLM-related research and development activities. These include pre-training, fine-tuning, Retriever-Augmented Generation (RAG), sophisticated inference pipelining, and Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF), positioning us at the forefront of AI and machine learning innovation.
Your Role
Build data/ETL pipelines for training and fine tuning LLMs
Perform supervised fine tuning and instruction-tuning of open-source Generative AI models such as LLaMA-2 for a variety of downstream tasks such as Question Answering
Setup inference endpoints and MLOPs workflow for iterative model performance tuning
Submit in industry-standard benchmarking organizations such as MLCommons
Set up LangChain pipeline including prompt engineering and parsing
Develop custom pre-trained LLMs based on internal data
Collaborate with internal teams for data engineering and building custom models and optimizations
What You'll Bring
Ph.D. or M.S. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or related fields
3-6 years industry experience in large-scale ML model development.
NLP and LLM model development experience is a strong plus.
Expert in Python especially in AI/ML libraries such as PyTorch, Tensorflow, Sklearn, LLM tools such as Spacy, and data engineering tools such as Pandas, Numpy, Spark
Hands-on MLOps skills such as feature engineering, data formatting, deployment, monitoring
In-depth knowledge of deep learning learning algorithms especially for NLP and LLM
Familiarity with open source LLM ecosystem such as Hugging Face and LangChain
Proficient in at least one of the system-level languages such as C/C++, Java, Golang and Data Structures and Algorithms for improving computational efficiency
Demonstrated track record of prior open source contribution is a significant plus

I have been working at Nutanix since May 2021, primarily on the machine learning algorithm side but also in areas like MLOPs lifecycle management, data preparation, and deployment. Prior to Nutanix, I founded a VC-funded start-up in AIOPs space and did a PhD in the area of data center operations management from Georgia Tech. I hold a B.Tech. from IIT Kharagpur. Overall, I have nearly 15 years of experience as a scientist, startup, entrepreneur, and technical leadership. I bring a unique trifecta of deep scientific aptitude, innovation, and organizational leadership.
What The Team Says
We work in a fast-paced startup mindset and look forward to adding self-motivated team members who like to take ownership and build scalable Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative AI services.
This team has tremendous learning opportunities including data-centric AI, deployment, and open source community contribution.
How We Work
We are a geo-diverse team which puts a premium on collaboration . Our team is a group of highly-motivated engineers with can-do attitudes. We aspire to lead the enterprise AI adoption within Nutanix and more importantly in the greater community. We regularly submit papers to top tiered conferences, benchmarking results to industry standard communities such as MLCommons, and contribute to open source projects such as KubeFlow. Overall, we drive a culture of hacking, candor, and ownership. We adopt a hybrid working model fusing in-office and remote work to support productivity, collaboration, and mental health. In addition to weekly Nutanix lunch days that are a great opportunity to connect with other Nutants at a personal level, we frequently organize formal team outings to build strong interpersonal relationships and nurture a sense of community.
