Medication Aide
Summary: Provides direct care to the residents, administers and monitors medications and treatments after required training and under the direction of nurses. Encourages residents to function at their highest level of independence.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The unique responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to the essential functions listed below:
Maintains a working knowledge of all policies and procedures pertaining to the position.
Attends or completes 12 hours of in-service training every 12 months and mandatory scheduled meetings.
Documents incidents involving residents, including their care, medications and continued health care needs. Helps to keep resident files organized and updated.
Documents medications given to residents in the appropriate records and charts.
Manages inventory of medications
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Maintains a knowledge of policies and regulations related to their job/license.
Responds to resident call bells and pendants.
Makes rounds to check on residents as assigned during shift.
Assists residents with activities of daily living as assigned. Activities of daily living include, but are not limited to:
Assisting in bathing, dressing, and grooming (includes nail care, combing hair, brushing teeth, shaving, etc.)
Toileting (includes incontinent care)
Transferring
Assisting to and from the dining room
Assisting to and from activities
Obtains vital signs as needed and follows up with the charge nurse.
Administers CPR and first aid as needed.
Assists activity staff in conducting activity programs for residents.
Administers medications to residents (and stays with resident to ensure medications are swallowed).
Assists in orienting new employees.
Assists in other duties related to resident care as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
Must have completed an approved geriatric nursing assistant training program and/or comparable training and experience.
Must be certified by the State Board of Nursing.
Must have completed approved med aide training course and understands the safe and proper practices of medication administration.
Must be registered with the Board of Nursing as a med tech/medication aide.
Must have 4 hours of medication management training annually.
Must be able to accurately document medications administered to residents in PCC, residents’ charts, and the 24-hour communication book, as needed.
Must be organized, able to work well with people and as a team player.
Must be in designated uniform during working hours.
Must have strong customer service skills
Personal Qualities:
Must be neat and professional in dress during work hours.Physical Demands:

Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time
Must be able to exert up to 75 lbs. of force occasionally and exert up to 50 lbs. of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects including the human body.
Sensory Demands:
Auditory: to hear and understand verbal request,
Visually: be able to read necessary information to complete work tasks,
Verbally: communicate with customers and others on your team
Safety Equipment:
It is mandatory to follow safety policies and procedures including the use of carts when moving items as well as all personal protective equipment. Rather than lift heavy objects, break down items to smaller quantity.
Mandatory reporting of all work-related injuries within 12 hours to supervisor with participation in required documentation.
OSHA Exposure:
Category II Exposure is not part of routine job however may be exposed, within scope of performing duties to blood borne pathogens. Employees are mandated to use personal protective equipment such as gloves, gowns, and face protection and be familiar with chemicals and material safety data sheets as part of hazard communication program.Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: Full-time Shift may vary by community.
