Correctional Facility in Bridgeton NJ
The Medical Technician provides direct and indirect patient care to inmates under the direction of a Physician, Advanced Practice Nurse, Physician Assistant, or a Registered Nurse
Takes vital signs, height and weight and documents in electronic medical records (EMR)
Assists the physician/associate practitioner with procedures, including preparing the inmate for the examination
Obtains specimen collection and handling, including, but not limited to, drawing blood
Assists with the cleaning, sterilization and securing of equipment within the Health Service Unit
Maintains or assists in maintaining the supply stock in the Health Service Unit by ordering in a timely and appropriate manner
Maintains the supply stock in the examination rooms
Aggregates the orders of all medications and forwards to the pharmacy provider / local pharmacy
Able to function in a stressful environment and relates well to patients, security staff and healthcare team members
Entering and movement within the facility will be controlled by Correctional Officers
Qualifications
Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant Program (or related skills technician program)
At least two (2) years of progressively more responsible related healthcare experience involving multiple areas of knowledge, skill and abilities and demonstrating competencies to perform the essential duties of the position
EMT certification or CNA certification or formal training and/or on the job experience in phlebotomy
Valid Driver's License is required
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
This position is subject to State Regulations regarding certification and/or licensure
Computer literacy
Must be able to work mandatory overtime and will not be able to leave until the next shift relief arrives or other coverage can be arranged and to stay in cases of an emergency
As a first responder must have the physical capacity to perform CPR for at least 10 minutes
Physically able to assist in lifting and rotating patients who are unable to ambulate (up to 50 pounds)
Typing, ability to work at varying computer workstations provided by the Department of Corrections in shared office environments
Ability to speak clearly and write proficiently is essential, extensive reading required, extended sitting and/or standing is required
Intermittent physical exertion when performing job activities, ability to move from unit to unit within correctional facilities requiring walks, bends, stretches, pushes, and pulls
Hearing is essential, ability to speak clearly is required, required to travel within the state, ability to implement Universal Precautions and Safety Precautions and on call responsibilities
A generally crisis oriented, secure environment working with adults, some who exhibit aggressive, threatening behavior
Medical Technician must exhibit flexibility to work in a variety of settings
