JOB REQUIREMENTS: Overview Provides patient care by collecting andprocessing samples and performing clinical laboratory procedures.Required to work alternate shifts, weekends, and holidays. Performsother duties as assigned. Responsibilities With documented training,performs lab test by automated and manual methods according to definedpolicies and procedures. Performs and interprets, with supervision,quality control and proficiency testing procedures to ensure accurateand precise test results. Assures appropriate documentation in allaspects of laboratory testing to meet regulatory requirements. Respondsto questions from physicians and nurses regarding laboratory testing.Processes specimens and prepares paperwork for transport to referencelaboratories. Performs preventative maintenance, troubleshooting andcalibration of laboratory instrumentation. Performs phlebotomy tocollect patient blood specimens. Assists front desk clerk with releasinglab and x-ray orders form EPIC. May be asked to assist with method andinstrument evaluation. May be asked to participate in teaching andtraining. Keeps work area clean and organized. Assures adequateinventory of reagents and supplies. Education and Experience Associatedegree and/or equivalent education, internship and experience in amedical laboratory science program. Certification/Licensure MedicalLaboratory Technician (MLT) certification through an accrediting agency,i.e. ASCP, AMT, HEW, Military, required within 90 days. Approved CPR orBLS certification required within 90 days.
