Job Description:
Maximize the health of the patients and communities we serve by aligning with and supporting clinical programs, services and providers through the implementation and efficient use of processes, data, analytics, and technology to optimize the clinical, business, and financial performance across Intermountain to the deliver safe, cost effective, value-based patient centered care following continuous improvement methodologies and the Intermountain Operating Model.
The Medical Director of Informatics is expected to work, as a leader on the Intermountain Technology Team (DTS) to support our customers in identifying better ways to empower our people, improve our processes and use knowledge and technological assets to deliver on our mission.
This position interacts with all levels of the organization and is responsible for leveraging evidence-based clinical, operational, and informatics best practices and improvement methods to provide high-quality, safe, and appropriate-cost care, processes, and solutions for our customers across the continuum of care.
Position will focus and align with one of the following:
Surgical ServicesThis position will report to the Associate Chief Health Information Officer of Acute Informatics. They will have a dotted line relationship to the Physician DTS Medical Director for Surgical Services. They will also be in a dyad relationship with their respective Informatics Portfolio Managers.
Job Essentials
Accountable for managing a portfolio of programs, strategies, and services that create both short and long-term value for Intermountain Healthcare and executing those strategies to achieve desired results.
Collaborates and maintains relationships with Intermountain Technology Team Leadership Team members, other Intermountain leaders, and healthcare industry executives; to Identify, recommend, and facilitate strategic integration and execution on health information technology strategy with significant financial, patient, and caregiver impact.
Advises Executive Sponsors on strategic integration as assigned, and effectively influences leaders to achieve strategic, financial, and operational objectives associated with DTS objectives; utilizing the 'jobs theory' framework and understands the importance of observational-based design concepts.
Partners with multi-departmental leadership and other stakeholders across Intermountain to develop, prioritize and track project deliverables according to relevant measurement criteria.
Serves as a change leader, working directly with executives and employees across the organization on identifying, developing, and implementing initiatives supported by DTS.
Develops and coordinates plans to ensure alignment with Intermountain Healthcare strategies and goals, consistent with the Intermountain Operating System and associated processes.
Utilizes data and insights to answer the right questions and derive the correct decisions.
Directs the work of others to ensure that all projects are delivered within the defined scope, quality, and time requirements.
Responsible to lead teams consisting of direct and indirect reports. Responsible for directing the work of employees and for the day-to-day management of the team, including staffing, goal setting, coaching, mentoring, employee recognition, training and development, and performance management. In addition, responsible to lead through influence, in a matrix structure, regardless of formal reporting relationships or levels.
Minimum Qualifications
Advanced Practice Provider Degree. Education is verified.
Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
Five years previous clinical professional experience.
Five years of experience in a healthcare leadership or other relevant roles leading programs, projects, or people requiring the demonstrated ability to analyze information effectively to arrive at critical decisions and take effective action.
Demonstrated organizational skills that result in successful management across multiple strategies and execution timelines.
Experience in a role requiring effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills.
Experience preparing executive presentations, using presentation software, and presenting to work and community groups.
Experience working in a highly matrixed and relationship-driven culture.
Proven ability to develop talent and build successful teams.
Experience driving change in a complex and distributed yet system-oriented environment.
Demonstrated passion for growing integrated teams that provide excellent service delivery.
Demonstrated ability to operate and lead in a self-directed way.
Ability to travel - primarily throughout the Intermountain system.
Preferred Qualifications
Current member of Intermountain Healthcare medical staff.
Advanced training in Clinical Informatics including but not limited to Masters, AMIA 10 by 10, or Board Certification or eligibility in Clinical
Informatics
Training in Continuous Improvement
Current license in Intermountain’s catchment area.
Demonstrated advanced analytical and conceptual skills and proficiency using spreadsheets, presentation, data management, and word processing software.
Experience with Cerner or Epic EMR
Clinical experience in surgical services care areas with exposure to ambulatory, post-acute and inpatient care environments.
