  Job Summary

  Under general supervision, assists provider including all back officeduties. Provides nursing support with various functions such as; invasiveprocedures, medication administration, performing appointment andregistration scheduling functions. Assists the RN with clinical clericalfunctions. Ensures smooth work and patient flow within the clinic.

  Essential Functions:

  Accurately and efficiently takes vital signs and basic historical patientdata. Identifies abnormal patient findings. Communicates patient concerns orsignificant changes in patient's health status to provider or RN. (10%)

  Assists provider in setting up for procedures including aseptic and steriletechniques; provides safe administration of medications and immunizations(oral, IM, subcutaneous, and/or intradermal); obtains EKGs,orders appropriate tests as directed by provider; and schedules specialtyand follow-up appointments as directed by provider. (10%)

  Prepares patients for examinations, assists with examinations, cast orsplint applications, minor procedures a variety of other medically relatedtasks within their scope of knowledge. (10%)

  Assists in the coordination of clerical information necessary to providepatient care. This may include, but is not limited to:* Referrals.* Assisting patients with appointments if necessary.* Faxing of pertinent medical information.* Maintains patient medical record and other information. Ensures patientconfidentiality* Assists patients with the arrangement of tests and treatments prescribed byphysician.* Assisting the provider or registered nurse in providing routine treatmentinstructions.* Test results & patient follow-up(10%)

  Checks in patient by escorting patients from reception area to exam room andcommunicates information regarding any extended wait or delay in appointmenttime. (10%)

  Documents accurately and appropriately in patient medical record. (10%)

  Reports change in patient condition to appropriate health care provider in atimely manner. (10%)

  Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments/supplies.Prepares and maintains clinical and office supplies and equipment fortreatments, including sterilization and restocking of exam and treatmentrooms. (10%)

  Maintains a safe environment by practicing sound safety and infection controlpractices according to agency policies and procedures. Helps to identifysafety and infection control issues. (10%)

  Engages in performance appraisal on a routine basis by accepting and providingconstructive feedback and integrates feedback into practice. Participates incompetency reviews as required by department. Assumes accountability forachieving goals set jointly with the manager for the next evaluation period.Participates in the peer review process. (5%)

  May perform phlebotomy and perform various laboratory procedures aftercompetency verified. Maintains safe collection and processing of laboratoryspecimens. (5%)

  Education:

  Graduation from an accredited program in Medical Office Assisting or anaccredited program of Licensed Practical Nursing with an active LPN licenserequired.

  Work Experience:

  Completion of a 160 hour Externship Required or 6 months direct patient careexperience in an outpatient setting Required

  Licenses:

  BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association Required

  Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  Knowledge of medical office practice.

  Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures.
