  Overview

  Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers, Colorado's largest and most comprehensiveprovider of cancer care has an exciting opportunity for an experienced MedicalAssistant in Thornton.We realize that it sounds cliche but it is true - taking care of cancerpatients is a calling. Each of us has a uniquestory that brought us to Rocky Mountain Cancer Centers (RMCC), but thosestories usually share common themes of care, compassion, and commitment.No matter the role each RMCC team member serves in, the goal is the same:to provide the best care possible for each and every one of our patients.Whether we are a nurse holding our patient's hand, or a scheduler on thephone finding an appointment that fits into a patient's schedule, we aredeeply connected to our patients and do what we can to help.If this sounds like you, we'd love to have you join our team.Under direct supervision, assists physicians and clinicians with patientcare duties in a clinical environment. Promotes efficient patient flow andpatient care, i.e. exams, and procedures. Performs clinic support tasksincluding miscellaneous clerical tasks, answering phones, and maintainingphysician's schedule. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology ComplianceProgram, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.Salary Range: $18.29-$24.00

  Responsibilities

  -Escorts patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatmentroom as appropriate.-Records patient data prior to each physician visit, including but notlimited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.-Obtains all necessary patient records as required by physician and verifiespresence of consent prior to treatment or procedures.-Prepares and stocks exam/treatment rooms and orders supplies as needed.-Assists physicians with exams and procedures as requested.-Assists with delegated patient education including but not limited todistributing education literature, etc. -Obtains blood specimens fromperipheral sites as needed and in accordance with OSHA and universalprecautions. -Administers subcutaneous and intramuscular injections,including but not limited to, hormones and biological growth factors.-Maintains all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.-Processes instruments and equipment as needed.-Answers patient telephone calls for referral to physician ornurse/pharmacist.-Phones in prescriptions and makes other patient calls as directed byphysicians and RN.-Schedules patient tests, procedures and hospital admissions and schedulesappointments to follow-up on receipt of test results, as applicable.-Obtains new patient records and previous test results, x-rays, scans, etc.

  Qualifications

  High school graduate or equivalent. Certificate of graduation from anaccredited program for Medical Assistants required. Minimum two yearsexperience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant in a hospital or clinicsetting. Current CPR certification required.

  PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must bemet by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals withdisabilities to perform the essential functions. Requires full range of bodymotion including handling and lifting patients, manual and fingerdexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking forextensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to40 lbs. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.-Required to lift and assist patients as requested.

  WORK ENVIRONMENT:The work environment characteristics described here are representative ofthose an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of thisjob. Exposure to communicablediseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations andother conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment mayoccur.

  All qualified candidates are required to pass a background check andnon-federal drug test (which excludes marijuana) post offer of employmentand prior to hire.Candidates will be required to show proof of being vaccinated againstinfluenza upon commencing employment.
