The Media Relations and Communications Specialist is responsible for the following:
Researching, conceptualizing, writing, and distributing press pitches, news stories, and releases; informing local, regional, and national media about university achievements, including faculty, staff, and student achievementsCoordinating news conferences and special eventsMonitoringUNCW-related media mentions and producing coverage reportsWriting short and long-form articles forUNCW Magazine and other publications; maintaining media distribution listsResponding to media inquiriesManaging emerging media issues with potential impact to the universityContributing to internal news distribution; constructing and disseminating messages to campus and media during emergency incidents and supporting crisis communication systems for campusCollaborating withOUR staff to plan promotional photography, video, and multimedia projectsCreating content for web platforms and contributing to social media platforms on an as-needed basisThis position may supervise student internsMinimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Preferred education, professional skills and experience
