Summary:
The Project Engineer is a step toward becoming a Project Manager. As a Project Engineer, you will work in a team environment in which you participate in, and learn preconstruction processes, design and virtual construction, fabrication workflows, field installation, and start-up and project turnover.
The successful candidate will have a strong mechanical background and knowledge base (HVAC wet & dry), and enjoy quick-paced construction schedules, along with tackling mechanical retrofit projects, re-pipe work, and multi-family and industrial projects. Project Size Range: integration into a team to support and master skills.
Support Project Manager(s) and run/bid smaller work
Expertise typically integrates:
Cost Elements like Change Orders or assisting with estimating, scheduling updates
RFI writing and integration to costs and schedule impacts.
Learning objectives in this role include understanding a project life cycle including but not limited to the cost elements such as change orders, assisting with estimating, scheduling updates, and writing RFIs to integrate cost and schedule impacts.
The Project Engineer is accountable to and draws authority from either the Project Manager or Project Superintendent, depending upon how the dynamics of the project are initially established.
Primary Responsibilities:
Learn, follow, and promote Company safety and quality protocols
Maintain current and accurate quantity tracking data
Cost Control reporting and forecasting
Take off quantities and prepare pricing for changes when so directed
Thoroughly review all drawings, submittals, samples, and shop drawings, to ensure the end product will be in accordance with the contract
Budget set-up
Write and manage RFI’s and change orders
Estimating and procurement
Prepare Submittals and maintain Submittal Log
Plan and Coordinate work appropriately to facilitate the work permit process
Review construction procedures and provide technical support for work
Ensure construction work done in-house and by sub-contractors complies with the contract
Be directly involved with construction procedures, represent JH Kelly at various meetings
Perform field engineering for construction convenience items including calculation and design drafting when required
Keep management informed of project status and scheduling
Thoroughly review all drawings, submittals, samples, and shop drawings, to ensure the end product will be in accordance with the contract
Relationships:
Maintain proactive and positive relationships within the crafts:
Including shop and field craft personnel; and supervision coworkers
Maintain proactive and positive relationships with:
Customer representatives
Vendors, Suppliers, and Subcontractors
Safety, CAD/BIM, Accounting, and IT
All Project Teams
Perform additional tasks as assigned
Experience / Qualifications:
Construction Management, Mechanical, Industrial, Civil engineering degree and/or equivalent experience or education
Some great Project Engineers come from field craft and want to move into an office role.
Project Engineering experience in the applicable construction industry
Scheduling experience and/or education
Familiarity with Scheduling, using MS Project or comparable applications
Solid working knowledge of Project Management, Construction Management, Construction Contracts, Quality Assurance/Quality Control, and Safety
Job turnover experience
Proficient in reading drawings and isometrics
Necessary Skills:
Fully Proficient in Microsoft Office & Bluebeam – intermediate skills in Excel
Strong oral and written communication skills
Self-starter, motivated, and takes initiative
Organized and productive
Ability to proactively build and cultivate relationships
Ability to maintain proactive, collaborative, and professional relationships with Client Representatives, Suppliers, Subcontractors, and internal team
Comfortable in a fast-paced environment with multiple tasks and projects at hand
Energetic and eager to prioritize workload and tackle new projects and ideas
Must have a valid driver's license
Benefits:
Salary Range - $40-$55 per hour, DOE. FLSA non-exempt (OT eligible)
