  Team or Function Overview

  With a “Small Town Heart and Big City Spirit,” the City of Cumming is a vibrant community located just a short drive south of the beautiful North Georgia Mountains and about an hour north of Atlanta in Georgia. Known as the “Gateway to Leisure Living,” Cumming offers many amenities and attractions like an aquatics center, fairgrounds, recreation center, Lake Sidney Lanier, and much more while still remaining rich in history and tradition. The GAF Cumming plant manufactures commercial and residential roofing material such as injection molding accessories for roof systems as well as accessories for commercial roofing systems.   Summary

  The Cumming Material Handler reports to the Logistics Supervisor. The Material Handler must be familiar with all areas of the fork truck driving procedures for safely loading and unloading trucks to maintain efficient, safe operations. The Material Handler is responsible for all order picking, order verification and loading of customer or carriers' vehicles in a safe manner. The ideal candidate thrives in environments where safety, quality, service and cost are the highest priorities.

  Essential Duties

  Practices incident and accident prevention, demonstrating safe behavior in all activities

  Obtains and maintains fork-truck certification by attending in-house training, and completes daily fork truck check sheets

  Replaces the forklift’s liquefied propane gas (LP) tanks

  Troubleshoots work related issues and communicates issues with maintenance, Shipper/Receiver, and Logistics Planner

  Works safely, and is responsible for housekeeping in his/her work areas at all times

  Prioritizes work assignments by meeting with Logistics Planner, Shipper/Receiver, and Logistics Supervisor every morning and throughout the day

  Drives the fork truck safely through the warehouse mindful of pedestrian traffic at all times

  Participate in Cycle Counting events when needed, able to adjust schedule to meet inventory deadlines

  Ships according to FIFO principles on all items in the warehouse to ensure shelf-life efficacy

  Prepares product for shipping by reviewing the packing slip, hand picking the product and assembling the pallet

  Arranges material on flatbeds according to weight restrictions and driver input when loading

  Ensures correct product delivery by reviewing packing slip and product on truck

  Verifies product quantity for shipment and receiving by counting and signing Picking Slip and Bill of Lading

  Learns safety hazards and job procedures by reading and understanding Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA)

  Suggests improvements in work methods and procedures by communicating to Logistics Supervisor

  Works safely when loading and unloading van trailers; uses dock locks and chocks to hold trailer steady when going in and out

  Voluntarily learns hazardous material safety for spills and transporting material; earns HAZMAT certification and keeps current

  Obtains and maintains forklift certification by attending in house training

  Trouble shoots and communicates any work related issues with Logistics Supervisor, Manager of Manufacturing Technology, and/or Maintenance if needed

  Performs other duties as instructed by the Logistics Supervisor

  Daily review of email and department communication; maintains a good attendance record

  Maintains a positive working relationship with all plant employees and other business contacts

  Uses process improvement tools to drive continuous improvement of the plant and business processes

  Follow and document Hazardous Materials Transportation Guidelines for all shipments

  Observe what needs to be done and take initiative to perform this work

  Frequent sitting, walking and standing; occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling and balancing

  Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication through automated devices such as the telephone

  Required to sit, stand, walk and use hands to grasp, handle or feel objects, tools and product samples

  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus

  Must continuously have the ability to differentiate colors precisely

  Required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel or crouch

  Ability to perform detailed testing processes in various process conditions

  Frequent use of eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use of manufacturing equipment and machinery

  Ability to read and concentrate via computer data entry typing and proofreading

  Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds

  High school diploma or GED

  2 years’ experience in a fast paced, logistics manufacturing environment

  Experience supporting logistics, customer care and business goals

  Ability to troubleshoot and solve logistics, carrier and customer challenges

  Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, other)

  Familiar with standard warehouse concepts, practices and procedures

  Experience in fast-paced warehouse environment and safe fork truck operation
