The City of Rochester invites applications for the position of:
Marketing & Communications Specialist
Communications & Engagement Statement of Intent
Consistently engage and clearly communicate news, opportunities, and information to community members in an inclusive, transparent, and thoughtful way that allows their voices to be heard and incorporated into the work of the City of Rochester.
Nature of Work
Under the direction of the Strategic Communications & Engagement Director, the Marketing & Communications Specialist will assist with communications, engagement and marketing tasks and projects to promote and advance the Mission, Vision and Strategic Priorities of the City of Rochester. The primary function of this role is to provide communications and marketing support and assistance to various City departments and to the organization overall, and will have experience working in a highly complex environment and can create compelling communications for a variety of audiences across many different channels.
Typical duties of the position include but are not limited to recommending and implementing a marketing and communications strategy at the organizational and departmental levels, ensuring messaging and brand consistency across communications channels, creating content and completing projects and assignments with a high level of independence and self-direction.
Pay: 2024 salary is $79,171 to $93,142 based on qualifications, with advancement to $116,429.
Schedule: The typical work schedule 8 AM - 5 PM Monday through Friday with evening and weekend work based on the timing of community events. Remote work is available on a hybrid basis.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
*Create and maintain a positive public image for the City of Rochester and its departments by preparing communications and providing public relations support
Implement departmental and organizational marketing and communication plans in alignment with departmental and organizational strategic goals and objectives.
Utilize data and analytical tools to continually improve marketing and communications tools.
Develop and maintain positive relationships with the media, elected officials, community representatives, and other communications professionals.
Uphold the organization and department brands, including proofreading and editing materials.
Develop communication material (press releases, newsletters, media scripts, newsletters, social media, etc.).
Provide support for website and other communication platforms.
Conduct research and gather information used for communication tasks.
Serve on the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Public Information Officer’s team.
*Assist with internal communications needs.
Assist with the development and dissemination of the Forward Teammate newsletter.
Have knowledge and awareness of departmental needs and priorities and develop strong relationships with teammates across the organization.
Assist with maintaining and updating the internal website.
Assist with internal programs including providing writing, editing and design assistance.
*Perform other duties as required.
*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in journalism, communications, public relations, digital media, marketing, or a related field AND at least three (3) years of experience in communications, marketing, public relations, community engagement or a related field preferably in a government, non-profit or public sector setting.
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
