Purpose of the Role
The marketing intern will work with Saunders Construction's marketing, communications and business development team. The marketing intern will assist in creating and maintaining marketing data and materials, which may include qualifications and proposals for new business, coordination of project photography, brochures, award submissions, digital marketing, event coordination, promotional item and supply ordering, and assistance in other marketing and communication initiatives to support the company’s business objectives. The marketing intern will learn how to better use design software, improve business writing and marketing skills, and gain exposure to the construction industry while being part of a professional and fun working environment.
Functions / Duties
Capstone Project:
A capstone project will be developed by the candidate and supervisor to demonstrate what they’ve learned during the internship.
Corporate Standards:
Incorporate Saunders Construction’s companywide brand guidelines into all materials.
Ensure consistent, updated appearance and style for all marketing collateral.
Implement best practices, style guides, and templates as prescribed by department leadership.
Utilize library of standard graphic elements (e.g., logos, fonts, etc.).
Marketing Material Creation and Utilization:
Create basic graphic/written materials needed for various marketing deliverables.
Support marketing team to create graphics and written materials for proposals, qualifications and interview slideshows.
Assist with the production of collaterals in the local office, such as binding, printing and ordering.
Schedule, organize and assess professional photography services for completed projects.
Support advertising efforts for local industry publications.
Review, edit and update website content.
Visit project sites to research project challenges and create case studies to be used in proposals and qualifications.
Create submissions for social media platforms such as Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.
Write award submissions for trade publications.
Event planning for project site events, such as groundbreakings, topping outs and grand openings.
Contact with employees for resume updates.
Update and create new project case studies.
Internal/External Communication:
Assist with short project/company stories for Saunders’ SharePoint site (Saunders Network) and Saunders Spotlights quarterly publication.
Create content for the bi-weekly Friday Extra internal newsletter.
Assist with writing press releases and media alerts.
Event planning assistance and execution of the intern summer social.
Product/Information Management:
Maintain stock of promotional items.
Work with Saunders ordering system to brainstorm new items, price out and reorder when necessary.
Manage/request aid for one-off promotional materials for corporate events and tradeshows/career fairs.
Data entry and upkeep with CRM software.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities / Qualifications / Experience
Currently pursuing an associates or bachelor’s degree in marketing, public relations, graphic design, business, communication, journalism, or related field.
Dependable with ability to handle simultaneous tasks/deadlines.
Demonstrates a commitment to quality with keen attention to detail.
Excellent communication, writing, time management, organizational and interpersonal skills required.
Quick self-starter, team-oriented, can-do approach, and able to work with diverse personalities and professional styles.
Willingness to learn new concepts and technologies.
Capable of problem solving to find multiple solutions under tight time constraints.
Ability to professionally receive constructive criticism.
Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SharePoint and Adobe InDesign preferred.
Physical Demands
May require travel to project sites in the Denver Metro area.
May require attendance of marketing related events, such as employee/company meetings, tradeshows, industry events, etc.
