JOB SUMMARY
The MDM manufacturing organization is set up to offer a developmental ladderfor production staff. This structure is intended to reward skill developmentand performance and enhance the ability to retain capable people.
The manufacturing staff is small, as product designs are elegantly simpleand assembly times are short. Team members need to develop a range ofcapabilities and to demonstrate flexibility, cross-training to performwhatever among the variety of tasks is necessary to meet customer requirementson any given day. Progression is also influenced by quality of work anddevelopment of technical proficiency.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThere are five levels in the manufacturing job hierarchy; each level buildson capabilities developed at lower levels.
MANUFACTURING ASSEMBLER/OPERATOR - ENTRY and NOVICEDuties include:o Assembling pump motor units in accordance with established procedures.o Wiring motors and electrical components as required.o Testing assembled pump motor units.o Packaging pump motor units and parts kits.o Palletizing orders for shipment.o Solvent bonding components and fittings.o Painting components as required.o Daily housekeeping in the shop and warehouse.o Sweeping, mopping, trash pickup, maintaining general shop cleanliness.o Putting away tools and materials.o Housekeeping functions in the office area.o Facility maintenance labor.0 Landscaping work, snow removal.
MANUFACTURING ASSEMBLER/OPERATOR - INTERMEDIATEDuties include:o Ultrasonic welding impellers.o Machining components in accordance with established procedures.o Operating the engine lathe, vertical mill and vertical boring mill.o Operating the forklift after passing certification requirements.
MANUFACTURING ASSEMBLER/OPERATOR - ADVANCEDDuties include:o Warehouse operation including:o Putting away and relocating material as required.o Picking kitted work orders and staging for assembly.o Welding as required.o Assembling specialized assemblies in accordance with established procedures.o Assembling OEM and private label orders.o Diagnosing problems with RMA (returned material authorization) pumps,collecting materials and performing repairs, as well as reporting activityas required.
MANUFACTURING ASSEMBLER/OPERATOR - SPECIALISTDuties include:o Assembly and test of the largest of MDM pump motor units.o Activities that include substantial variety and complexity and independence.o Assignments that involve a degree of latitude and require planning andanalysis.o Leadership within the work group that achieves cooperation without formalauthority.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIESManufacturing Operator/Assembler staff will:o Internalize MDM factory operations procedures and assembly steps for each ofthe product lines.o Understand current or existing manufacturing system drivers and learn newones as processes evolve.o Learn MDM existing part numbering systems and new ones as the productportfolio evolves.o Track personal production activity and faithfully record productionthroughput as required.o Develop machine operation and technical skills required to contributeeffectively as customer demands change from day-to-day.o Demonstrate resourcefulness, personal enthusiasm for MDM products &willingness to be proactive in basic vendor interactions.o Communicate clearly and effectively.o Establish priorities, work independently when necessary, and proceedwith objectives in the absence of supervision.o Handle conflict effectively and resolve recurring problems diplomatically.o Take responsibility for mistakes where appropriate and offer insight to takecorrective action.
CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCEThe incumbents may have a range of experience, depending on the level ofskill required to meet specific MDM manufacturing and developmentrequirements. Entry level credentials will involve a cooperative attitud ,and the ability to be at work reliably and on time. Progression is achievedwith on-the-job experience with demonstrated willingness to take on newassignments and learn new assignments.
PHYSICAL DEMANDSDuties are primarily conducted in part in a factory setting. Consciousness ofother people in the workspace is essential, as handling heavy components isan integral part of the job. In-factory work may involve computers and willinvolve pumps, water and electricity. Factory work also involves lifting upto 75 pounds.
Some overtime, holiday, and occasional weekend work may be required tosupport customers.
