  RESPONSIBILITIES

  The Manager of the Special Archive and Engineering Library plays a pivotal role in delivering extensive and specialized research services to support MTA Construction & Development's Bridges and Tunnels (B&T) Business Unit. These services cater to engineers, the Law Department, consultants, and contractors involved in the execution of Capital, Operating, and SBMP Programs related to B&T construction contracts.

  Additionally, the Manager serves as an invaluable resource for the B&T Office of the President, Operations, Maintenance, and Internal Security departments. This role involves providing historical and legacy information, offering Subject Matter Expertise for special events and programming, and capturing agency milestones and first-hand employee accounts of significant incidents and impactful occurrences through video and recorded interviews.

  Furthermore, the Manager contributes creative and editorial services to the quarterly employee newsletter and creates and maintains jurisdictional and property reports to ensure the agency operates within established boundaries. They also supply contract specifications and drawings to facilitate contractor proposals and bids, along with historic engineering drawings, reports, and data to inform ongoing engineering and construction efforts.

  The Manager extends research services to various external parties, including authors, journalists, filmmakers, and investment rating agencies. They oversee the security of multiple physical spaces that house historical and contemporary materials, as well as specialized equipment like large-scale plotters and scanners. Additionally, they maintain climate-controlled environments and optimize space for efficiency and accessibility.

  Taking on a leadership role, the Manager directs the operations of both information centers, namely the Archive and Engineering Library, and supervises the Assistant Project Manager and Assistant Project Coordinator. The Special Archive, which includes the Engineering Library, houses the Authority's extensive collection of historical and contemporary engineering records. This encompasses over 100,000 original print photographs and negatives, in excess of 100,000 original drawings, and hundreds of thousands of documents documenting the planning and construction of B&T facilities. The Archive also incorporates digital records, including photographs, videos, presentations, and electronic reports.

  QUALIFICATIONS

  Bachelor’s degree in history (or related fields) and five (5) years professional training and experience as an archivist, with demonstrated knowledge of archival and/or library best practices.

  A proven track record of leadership and successfully managing a team, supervisory or managerial experience for at least 1(one) year.

  Trained in organization, security and access controls of historical records.

  Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

  Exceptional written and oral communication skills are essential for this role.

  Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in archival and library best practices, including preservation, cataloging, and information management.

  Familiarity with archival standards, digitization processes, and information security is crucial.

  Proficiency in conducting in-depth research and utilizing archival resources to respond to inquiries and support capital program contracts.

  Strong research skills, including the ability to interpret historical documents, are essential

  High degree of computer literacy to enable evaluation of computer software and hardware.

  Strong project management skills to oversee special events, exhibitions, and projects that commemorate agency milestones.

  Ability to plan, direct, and curate historical displays and public programming is essential.

  The capability to work collaboratively with various departments, including engineering, legal, and security, and to interact with external parties such as authors, journalists, filmmakers, and rating agencies.

  Flexibility to adapt to the evolving needs of the agency and stay up-to-date with emerging trends in archival and library science, as well as information management.

  Proficiency in digital archiving, including managing digital records, using specialized software for archival purposes, and ensuring data security.

  REFERRED

  Master’s degree in library science (or related fields) with minor in archival administration or related field

  Certification in archival studies or a related discipline

  Continued professional training.

  MTA Bridges and Tunnels is governed by the Civil Service Rules and Regulations administered by the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS).

  Also, as an employee of MTA Bridges & Tunnels, you may be required to complete an annual financial disclosure statement with the State of New York, if your position earns more than $108,638.00 (this figure is subject to change) per year or if the position is designated as a policymaker.
