  JOB OVERVIEW

  Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for several dynamic, strategic and results-driven professionals to join our team in the role of Manager, Projects based in Pickering, ON.

  The Manager, Projects is responsible for supervising professional, technical, and trades staff engaged in project new construction, modification and site maintenance activities in a multi-unit nuclear generating facility. This role will provide leadership in project management including design, cost, schedule, quality, material control, and contract work. The Manager, Projects is responsible for optimization of project implementation. This individual will participate in strategic planning, budgeting, and training programs.

  *KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES *

  Supervise professional and technical staff, Power Workers union and construction trades, as assigned. Assign tasks and provide instructions as required. Check work of assigned staff to ensure good quality, accuracy, and productivity.

  Develop work methods. Make effective recommendations to Supervisor regarding staff issues in specified areas such as training, transfer, promotion, selection, and discipline.

  Conduct performance appraisal interviews.

  Administer collective agreements and jurisdictional precedents for the purpose of assigning work to appropriate trade and/or industrial bargaining group.

  Provide advice and administer, diagnose and solve problems associated with Department facilities and specific project elements.

  Define project objectives, scope, estimates, schedules, work plans and all resource requirements, (including equipment and staffing).

  Integrate the efforts of all persons contributing to a project including the customer, planning, finance, engineering, estimating, drafting, installation, quality control, radiation protection, safety, security, materials management, cost and schedule control, commissioning and documentation.

  Coordinate and implement project technical work/solutions, and initiate the acquisition of appropriate approvals, as required in support of the operation and maintenance of the facilities.

  Assess, evaluate, diagnose, identify, and recommend initial disposition of the problems as requiring (1) further review and investigation(s), (2) abandonment of the problem as being the best alternative. Obtain approval, discuss proposed solution, and attempt to resolve problems and arrive at a mutually agreeable plan of action; (such includes, Section Heads, Shift Supervisors, specialists, contractors, suppliers and designers in OPG or external to the Corporation). Prepare submission, including cost justification or financial evaluation as appropriate; recommend adoption of the proposal and the steps required to incorporate same.

  Prepare documentation of the proposal, such as equipment specifications, engineering calculations, installation, testing, operating and maintenance procedures, and the like. Submit necessary documentation covering complete proposal for forwarding to responsible bodies for requirements of OPG, regulatory bodies, codes and standards, are implemented.

  Instruct staff through lecture, field training, operating procedures and the like, with regards to installation/implementation. In conjunction with other departments/divisions and organizations, arrange for/execute tests and provide appropriate documentation, as required.

  Maintain and/or update operating, and other specified Department procedures.

  Prepare new or revised procedures consistent with operating licenses, policies, principles, Department/Division standard practices, standing instructions, maximum safety of operation, minimal risk of damage or loss, optimum frequency of routines, efficient operation and the like.

  Review proposals received from internal or external sources related to assigned area(s) of responsibility. Discuss proposal with originator as necessary to suggest changes or revisions as appropriate.

  Prepare or assist in the preparation of specifications, for purchasing requisitions for material, services, and equipment. As assigned, be required to approve designated specifications. Follow-up with procurement contact, and provide necessary project technical services during field installation. Prepare recommendations for spare parts requirements for existing and new equipment.

  Recommend research and development programs required to improve equipment, system(s), or unit reliability or performance, chemical control, material performance, rates and the like.

  Participate in training programs to further own development and the development of staff (including junior) and others in terms of systems and equipment knowledge, including Department procedures related to same. Attend lectures, perform assignments, and write examinations. Prepare training material and provide lectures on specific topics, set, mark examinations and the like.

  Contribute to the preparation of the Department's annual budget. Be required to provide cost estimates for new products and update costs of existing projects for input into Departmental budgets. Monitor actual project costs, and investigate and explain variances. Assist in the preparation of financial justification for the release of project funds.

  Lead the application of quality principles to the work of the Unit, through enhanced service and team approach.

  SUPPLEMENTARY NOTES

  These positions will entail travel to prime and sub-contractor facilities for meetings, oversight, and surveillance of project activities.

  These positions will involve field work including planning, troubleshooting and executing.

  Balance of Plant Supplementary Notes

  Position will involve supporting civil works for underwater construction.

  Positions will support civil projects where civil engineering and/or civil construction experience is preferred, particularly in tunnel, mining, and concrete.

  Retube and Feeder Replacement Supplementary Notes

  Position will involve planning and executing work packages associated with reactor component replacement and supporting auxiliary work (infrastructure readiness, station modifications, construction/component procurement, etc...). This includes, but not limited to, planning for: High radioactive environments, Unique conventional hazards (ie. Heavy/critical lifts, major material handling evolutions, etc.), Complex tooling designed for critical path (time sensitive) series, Precisely engineered technical specifications for removal and installation of major componentsTurbine Generators Supplementary Notes

  Position will involve the maintenance/modification of steam turbine generators

  Position will involve oversight of the design, testing, installation and commissioning scope of a Process and Shutdown Control system solution provided for a Power Plant

  Position will involve oversight of the design, testing, installation and commissioning of Vibration Monitoring System for Power Plant

  Position will involve oversight of the design, testing, installation and commissioning of Power or Process Plant Instrumentation and Valves

  Integration

  Position will involve the Integration with , Pickering Programs (Safe Storage, Decommissioning, Life Extension, OPS), Projects Bundle, Licensing, Environment, Analysis, Engineering, Indigenous Relations, and execution of other initiatives/projects.EDUCATION

  University degree or equivalent experience in project in engineering, construction, manufacturing, or a related field

  PMP is considered an asset.

   

  QUALIFICATIONS

   

  5+ years’ experience in Nuclear, Project Management, and/or related fields.

  3+ years’ experience in a leadership role.

  Experience in the operation of nuclear generating plants, including specialized equipment, processes, tooling, techniques, and methods used, and the application of the specialty to nuclear generating stations and associated facilities an asset.

  Knowledge of relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations

  Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  Exceptional written and oral communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

  Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

  Strong planning, managerial, and leadership skills.
