Overview: The Manager of General Medical Education oversees and manages the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited residency and fellowship programs within an acute care hospital. This role involves ensuring compliance with ACGME standards, facilitating educational activities, supporting program development, and fostering an environment conducive to high-quality medical education and resident/fellow well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
ACGME Compliance: Ensure adherence to ACGME accreditation standards, policies, and procedures across all residency and fellowship programs. Coordinate institutional efforts to meet accreditation requirements and maintain accreditation status.
Program Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of residency and fellowship programs, including recruitment, curriculum development, scheduling, evaluations, and compliance tracking. Collaborate with program directors to enhance program quality and educational experiences.
Resident/Fellow Support: Provide guidance, support, and resources to residents and fellows. Address their educational needs, assist with professional development, and foster an environment conducive to learning, growth, and well-being.
Educational Initiatives: Develop and implement educational initiatives, workshops, and seminars aimed at enhancing the educational experience of residents and fellows. Facilitate opportunities for research, scholarly activities, and interprofessional education.
Accreditation Preparation: Coordinate the preparation of program accreditation applications, site visits, and documentation required by the ACGME. Ensure accuracy and completeness of submissions in compliance with accreditation standards.
Data Management and Analysis: Collect, analyze, and maintain data related to program performance, resident/fellow outcomes, and educational effectiveness. Utilize data to identify areas for improvement and implement strategies for enhancement.
Collaboration and Communication: Foster collaboration among program directors, faculty members, hospital administration, and other stakeholders to support the educational mission of the institution. Facilitate effective communication and information dissemination related to educational programs.
Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for innovation and improvement within the educational programs. Implement best practices and initiatives to enhance the quality of medical education and optimize resident/fellow training experiences.
Qualifications:
Master's degree in education, healthcare administration, or related field. A medical degree (MD/DO) is advantageous but not mandatory.
Experience in managing ACGME-accredited residency and/or fellowship programs within a healthcare setting.
Thorough understanding of ACGME accreditation standards, regulations, and processes.
Strong leadership, organizational, and project management skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Ability to analyze data, assess program effectiveness, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
