Job Summary
The Manager of FM Classical is responsible for the leadership andsupervision of Illinois Public Media\'s classical music services,programming and outreach.
Duties & Responsibilities
Develop and Foster Community Support:
Serve as liaison between IPM\'s Classical Music services and thecommunityRepresent IPM Classical on Campus to academic units and studentorganizationsWork with key community partners such as regional symphonyorchestras and arts organizations to grow IPM Classical\'svisibility and audienceManage community events with other IPM depts. & partnersArticulate the station\'s vision to community, partners andsupportersResource Development:
Develop revenue sources in support the programming and build on thelegacy of IPM ClassicalBuild revenues to grow and diversify IPM Classical\'s local programsand servicesWork with SPA to apply grants for ongoing support and specialprojectsWork closely with Development on Membership and Major DonorcampaignsWork closely with the Development team to develop and enhanceunderwriting relationships and revenueContent and Promotions:
Voice interstitials, on-air pitches, and occasional program hostingWork with FM staff on music selectionWork with Director of Broadcast Operations on programminginitiativesWork with IPM staff, establish and achieve DEI goals in programingand outreachDevelop partnerships on and off campus with Krannert Center, Collegeof Music, regional symphonies and arts organizationsWork with traffic and other station \'voices\' on spots, promos,drops.Work with cross-department colleagues on programming, digital,marketing, and developmentCoordinates with Digital Team on content across all platformsAdministration and Operations:
Coordinate with Director of Broadcast Operations on daily operationsWork with Traffic and Promotion staff to ensure quality programmingand on-air soundMaintain working relationship with all departments within thestationProvide constructive feedback to on-air hosts to maximize theirperformanceWork with marketing team to develop promotions, and events to raisestation\'s profileWork closely with Development to produce and execute on-airmembership campaignsCollaborate with Digital Team in coordinating and providing contentfor the app and web siteEstablish and maintain professional relationships with independentproducers, artists, composers and other industry contactsMonitor trends and activities that are relevant to Classical FM\'smission and makes program and advocacy recommendations to theExecutive Director and leadership teamWork with Manager of DEI to capitalize on diversity in programmingand outreachEnsure operation of station in accordance with FCC regulations andpoliciesWork with the Executive Director on budgetary matters.Minimum Qualifications
1. Any one or any combination totaling three (3) years (36 months) ofthe following types of preparation:
A. progressively more responsible work experience in the production andpresentation of radio or television programs, social media, and/or printor online journalism
B. vocational training in radio and/or television production,journalism, social media, news or feature writing and/or announcing orclosely related fields
C. college course work in radio/television, journalism, social media,news or feature writing or closely related fields
- 60 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 mon hs)
- 75 semester hours equals one (1) year and six (6) months (18 months)
- 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
- 120 semester hours or a Bachelor\'s degree equals three (3) years (36months)
2. One (1) year (12 months) of work experience in the production andpresentation of radio or television programs, social media, and/or printor online journalism in addition to the preparation required in #1above.
3. One (1) year (12 months) of work experience comparable to thatperformed at the Media Writer/Producer/Announcer I level of this seriesor in other positions of comparable responsibility.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor\'s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Two years related experience
Supervisory experience
Excellent communication skills
Strong familiarity with classical music as well as its history andrepertoire, and pronunciation skills required
Knowledge of jazz and other genres helpful
Demonstrated experience with (audio board and software?) and a highaptitude to learn new technology.
Knowledge of and experience of Classical Music marketplace
