Manager Data Science
What you'll do... :
H&R Block is seeking a Manager of Data Acquisition and Management to join the Data Science and Analytics (DS&A) practice at H&R Block. This remote or local position will ensure that high quality data is available for embedded AI and Data Science models for real business results.
In this role, you will:
Build processes to acquire and test new data sources and technologies for Data Science purposes, including cloud technologies
Stand up a functional DS&A Shared Service to drive Data Scientist access to high-speed, quality data
Create a clear, prioritized data backlog for Data Architecture/Data Engineering within IT that matches business priority and optimizes for speed to solution
Provide a single point of contact with IT for all Data Architecture needs and help map out Data Engineering vision for the future
Oversee a Data Acquisition practice (including Data Analysts) within DS&A to acquire data to address business partner questions, reporting/visualization and feed Data Science and Gen AI Models
Experiment and test new data sets with Data Science to uncover new insights that drive our business
As a technical expert, report to the Director of Machine Learning & Platforms strategize and activate on a bold vision for Data Science and Gen AI at H&R Block.

Experience with Tableau, Looker and/or Power BI
Master’s in a quantitative discipline (e.g. Engineering, Economics, Computer Science)
5+ years of leadership experience within an IT function
What you'll bring to the team... :
10+ years experience in Data Engineering working with or within a Data Science function; strong understanding of Machine Learning and Data Science principles
Prior leadership experience of a Data Analysis/Data Engineering function
Strong negotiation and consensus building skills, with ability to distill complex concepts to key decision points
Previous experience driving change through an organization using data
Bachelors in a quantitative discipline (e.g. Engineering, Economics, Computer Science)
Experience leading cross-functional projects, including budgets, key milestones and stakeholder engagement
Familiarity with software development lifecycles or frameworks (e.g. Agile, Scrum, DevOps)
Familiarity with SDLC tools like Azure Dev Ops
Experience in Data Governance best practices, including with tools such as Alation or Purview
Experience with cloud technologies including MS Azure/AWS; cloud certifications a plus
Strong programming background in Python, Java or Scala
Strong background in relational databases incl. strong SQL or NoSQL background as well as ability to automate and manage ETL flows
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or the equivalent through a combination of education and related work experience.Work Experience:
