Job Description:
This junior-level position is for a recent graduate looking to use their passion for science and communication to create meaningful public engagement. You will join CDM Smith’s growing, cross-discipline strategic communications team, with the opportunity to work on projects across the U.S. in the water and environment sectors. Projects you may work on include water lead service line replacement program and PFAS risk communication efforts.
With strong writing skills and a sense of how to visualize content, you will work with technical staff and strategic communication experts, helping create effective public engagement materials and campaigns. When someone thinks something cannot be done, your first instinct is to find a solution anyway.
The core of your work will be creating and implementing public engagement and risk communication plans for diverse projects focused on improving community health and infrastructure. Your day-to-day duties will include:
Working with a public engagement and/or risk communication team, including CDM Smith technical personnel and sub-consultants, for each project
Developing public engagement plans, timelines, highly visual presentations, and professional communications
Organizing logistics for targeted virtual and in-person engagement efforts
Creating postcards, fact sheets, fliers, social media posts, and door hangars meant to communicate targeted messages and translate technical information into something the general public can understand
Interacting with the public, especially disadvantaged communities, via virtual and on-the-ground community forums and call centers
Conducting demographic and other related community research
Working with social media and electronic methods of survey and data collection
Communicating regularly with project stakeholders (elected officials, citizens, business community representatives, and environmental justice communities)
Some weekend and evening hours may be required to attend project public engagement events.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree. 0 years. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with graphic design and related software, especially the Adobe Suite, is a plus
Experience with GIS and related software is a plus
The ability to speak multiple languages, including Spanish, is a plus

Background Check and Drug Testing Information:
CDM Smith Inc. and its divisions and subsidiaries (hereafter collectively referred to as “CDM Smith”) reserves the right to require background checks including criminal, employment, education, licensure, etc. as well as credit and motor vehicle when applicable for certain positions. Additional Compensation:
All bonuses at CDM Smith are discretionary and may or may not apply to this position.
