Responsibilities
Job Summary:
Operates mammography radiographic equipment in performing diagnostic patient exams and procedures safely and accurately to capture specific images ordered by a physician to aid in patient diagnosis.
Work includes : 1) preparing and operating radiographic equipment, 2) positioning patients correctly and effectively, 3) recording the requested diagnostic images, and 4) sending results to physician for evaluation and diagnosis. Work is performed under the strict safety/regulatory/license departmental standards and protocols.
Incumbents are also accountable for applying knowledge of aseptic technique; maintaining quality control for all imaging equipment; and maintaining knowledge of physics, anatomy, techniques and medical terminology through participating in continuing education, seminars, meetings and in-services.
Essential Duties:
Prepares equipment for imaging tests, based on physicians’ orders and in adherence to department safeguards and protocols to ensure quality results.
Prepares patient and performs Mammography/Radiology procedures.
Assists a physician in performing stereotactic breast biopsies to develop additional information with respect to suspected abnormalities; uses a special automated biopsy needle placed by computer guidance using stereotactic mammogram images.
Maintains records and logs as required by department protocols and licensure requirements.
Performs incidental general office duties to include; answering phone; scheduling; filing; maintaining patient records; ordering supplies.
Qualifications
Education/Work Experience Requirements:
Graduation from an accredited school of Radiological Technology, and successful completion of accredited coursework for stereotactic breast biopsy, or willingness to be trained on-the-job to perform this procedure, that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities is also required.
A minimum of fifteen continuing education credit hours in a 36-month period specific to mammography is required.
Licensure/Certification:
American Registry of Radiological Technologist (ARRT) (M) (R)
Current State of Washington licensure as a Radiology Technologist – Certified.
Washington Society of Radiological Technologist (WSRT) recommended.
Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS certification.
Pay Range
$35.30 - $53.26 /hour
