  Homes for the Homeless, Inc. (HFH) is a non-profit social services organization operating family shelters throughout NYC that serve as a hub of opportunity for families both residing in the shelters as well as those in the neighboring community. On-site programs range from childcare, early childhood education centers, afterschool clubs and programs, and youth recreation activities, such as sports teams, to housing assistance, case management, parenting workshops, career and job vocational training, support groups and substance abuse assistance, and family engagement and recreation events for the whole family.   Homes for the Homeless is searching for a full-time Maintenance Worker to ensure our families have a clean and safe environment to temporarily call home. The Maintenance Worker will perform maintenance and repairs for Allie’s Place including plumbing, electrical, basic carpentry, heating and cooling and other building systems.

  ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure the facility continues to operate efficiently and the physical condition of the site does not deteriorate.

  Effectively handle service requests and work orders.

  Repairing drywall, painting, repairing doors and locks, and other building fixtures.

  Assess and repair issues including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general carpentry.

  Identify and report building deficiencies or needs to the supervisor.

  Operate and maintain tools and equipment safely and efficiently.

  Assist with unit inspections.

  Perform other duties as assigned.

  QUALIFICATIONS

  High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

  Minimum two years of experience in general maintenance.

  Must have knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and drywall repairs.

  Familiar with the proper use of power tools.

  Knowledge and ability to utilize computers and related technology efficiently.

  Ability to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 60 pounds.

  Be able to stand for long periods of time (up to 9 hours).

  Capable of performing duties with limited supervision.

  Availability to work a flexible schedule.
