Summary This position is located with the Physical Fitness Center - Ice Rink on Fort Wainwright, Alaska. Responsibilities Performs both daily and annual inspections and maintenance of the refrigeration system's specialized compressor, water purification, and refrigeration-system equipment. Operates Zamboni Ice Resurfacing Machine and is responsible for scheduling annual maintenance and services. Responsible for the maintenance of the Sports program's softball, soccer, and football fields, to include the development and maintenance of specialized athletic turf and other related field surfaces. Coordinates with supervisor for ordering all required supplies/equipment required to maintain indoor and outdoor operations. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Ability to operate a Zamboni Ice Resurfacer or other large vehicle up to one ton to accomplish safe starts, stops, backing, and general safe driving operations. Ability to plan and lay out work. Skill and knowledge at installing ice rink. Skill in startup, shut down and daily operation of ice rink compressors. The ability to accurately document system status, which must be recorded on a daily basis year-round, and to interpret the meaning of the readings to enable appropriate operation, care and maintenance of this system. Skill in establishing and marking athletic fields. Skill and ability to use and maintain the appropriate tools of the trade. Knowledgeable in the principals and techniques required to develop and maintain specialized athletic turf and other related athletic field surfaces, particularly in an arctic environment. Knowledgeable of basic fitness equipment maintenance and repair. Must be able to skillfully operate a Zamboni Ice Resurfacer or other large vehicle up to one ton to accomplish safe starts, stops, backing, and general safe driving operations. Ability to accurately document system status and interpret the meaning of the readings to enable appropriate operation, care and maintenance of this system. Must be able to identify system faults/failures and take the corrective measures to insure safe, efficient operation of the ice rink. Required to be knowledgeable in the principals and techniques required to develop and maintain specialized athletic turf and other related athletic field surfaces, particularly in an arctic environment. Possess knowledge of basic fitness equipment maintenance and repair. Must possess good written and verbal communication skills. FWS Allowances and Differentials This is a federal wage schedule (FWS) position. All FWS employees are entitled to overtime work for work in excess of 8 hours in a day or in excess of 40 hours in the administrative workweek, whichever provides the greater benefit to the employee. Regular full-time, regular part-time (to include those in a limited tenure appointment category) and regularly scheduled flexible employees are entitled to Sunday premium pay when working Sunday shifts. A FWS employee will be paid a night shift differential of 7.5% for the entire shift when a majority of the employee's regularly scheduled non-overtime hours of work occur between the hours of 1500 and 2400. A FWS employee will be paid a night shift differential of 10% of the scheduled rate if a majority of the employee's regularly scheduled non-overtime hours of work occur between the hours of 2300-0800. Incentives and Bonuses Incentives may be paid. Up to 25% recruitment and/or retention incentive may be authorized for positions offering at least a guarantee of 10 hours per week.
