  Summary This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Senate Office Buildings, Maintenance Branch is seeking a reliable and independent Maintenance Mechanic Worker to perform air conditioning, plumbing and electrical worker level tasks, shop maintenance and assisting journey-level tradesmen with complex duties. Responsibilities This position is an evening shift position: Sunday to Thursday 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. This is an Essential-Employee Position. The employee will be required to report to work during emergencies AND inclement weather situations. Work schedule require some occasionally mandatory overtime on holidays AND working weekend days. The individual selected for this position will: Assist higher level skilled trade’s workers in general maintenance functions. Performs duties in two or more of the following areas: Air Conditioning: Assists in gathering and laying out tools and materials for major preventive maintenance jobs. Selects the appropriate tools and equipment for minor jobs. Assists journey level employees by locating piping lines, setting up tools and equipment for use by others, cleaning up work areas after work has been completed, and storing tools in appropriate storage areas. Changes belts, greases bearings, cleans tanks, exhaust ducts, and fans in air conditioning equipment, changes filters in air handling units, and measures, cuts, and bends tubing or pipe. Performs inspections as required. Pipefitting / Plumbing Carries and handles tools, fittings and equipment for the journey level Pipefitter / Plumber, holding pipe during assembly, and screwing or bolting pipe hangers to walls or ceilings. Tightens pipe connections and valves and cuts or drills previously marked holes in walls. Assists in covering exposed sections of pipe to prevent freezing or to retain heat in hot water lines. Uses such tools as bract: and bit, keyhole saw, chisel and hammer or electric drill. Assists with the installation, maintenance and repair of high temperature water and high-pressure piping systems such as, steam heating and steam-generating systems. Assists in snaking clogged toilets, urinal, sinks, and floor drains. Assists in installing, replacing and repairing all restroom and kitchen appliances / fixtures. Electrical: Inspects electrical systems, equipment and components to identify hazards, defects, need for adjustment or repair and to ensure compliance with codes. Installs wall switches and electrical outlets. Replaces light ballasts and installs lighting fixtures. Follows directions to perform inspection, installation, repair, maintenance, troubleshooting and replacement of electrical systems, including lighting systems, power distribution systems (electrical panels), emergency systems (including exit lights and security lights), ballasts, switches, electrical receptacles, conduits and cables involving voltages from 120 volts to 480 volts. Shop and Work Site Maintenance: Works with Plumbers and Pipefitters and A/C Equipment Mechanics to perform required maintenance, inspections and repairs Assists with assemble, laying out work, hanging of pipe by lifting, carrying, and handing tools, fittings and equipment to the journey level plumber or pipefitter. Assists mechanics in sorting tools, cleaning the shop, carrying materials and maintaining a safe and clean work site environment. Provides assistance in carrying tools and equipment and holding materials during repair, modification and installation of plumbing or air conditioning parts, items and assemblies. Assists with ordering and accepting deliveries, counting stock and loading and unloading trucks. Conducts inspection building rounds of all HVAC-R and Plumbing equipment identify hazards, defects report to journey-level tradesmen or Supervisor. Performs other duties as assigned. You must meet the following SCREEN-OUT(S) required for this position. Performs work of a Maintenance Mechanic Helper or Worker and assisting journey-level skilled workers in two or more of the following areas: Air Conditioning, Pipefitting, Plumbing or Electrical.
