  The 6 North colorectal/general surgical nursing unit is a 43 bed unit that specializes in the care and management of patients receiving treatment from a variety of surgical service lines. As part of the 6 North nursing team, you will be providing preoperative and postoperative nursing care for patients undergoing colorectal, urological, vascular, or general surgery. The individualized care for each patient on 6 North is based on the multiplicity of surgical interventions being performed. Ileostomy/colostomy creation/reversal, bowel resection, laparoscopic hernia repair, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, cystoscopy with intervention, and peripheral vascular repair are a few of the many surgeries seen on the unit. Our nursing staff work together with nationally renowned physicians, pharmacists, physical/occupational/speech therapy, and respiratory therapists to provide quality care to each patient.

  Forbes Hospital is a 315 bed, Level II trauma hospital located in the community of Monroeville. Our hospital offers the service lines of a city hospital, inclusive of trauma, neurosurgery, cardiothoracic surgery, interventional cardiology, obstetrics and psychiatry, while also building relationships across the organization in a community setting

  GENERAL OVERVIEW:

  This job is a member of the direct care healthcare team and is responsible for providing care to patients and families under the direction of the registered nurse.

  ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  Performs general nursing care within the LPN scope of practice. (30%)

  Assists with the preparation of equipment and assists the clinical provider (registered nurse, advanced practice nurse and/or physician) during treatment, examination, and testing of patients. (20%)

  Collects assessment data, prepares patient for examination and documents clinical information on patient record and reports any changes in patients condition to the registered nurse, advanced practice nurse or physician. (20%)

  Orders diagnostic tests as directed by the clinical provider (registered nurse, advanced practice nurse and/or physician) and gathers diagnostic tests and/or examines results prior to physician/clinical provider assessment. (20%)

  Schedules procedures and obtains authorizations, as necessary, under the direction/oversight of the registered nurse. Assists nursing and medical staff with basic medical tasks such as administering medications, blood and tissue collection and/or other laboratory specimens; prepare patients for testing. (20%)

  Other duties as assigned or requested. (10%)

  QUALIFICATIONS:

  Required

  High School/GED

  Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) -OR- have applied for a temporary practice permit and must obtain LPN within six (6) months of hire.

  CPR

  Knowledge of EPIC documentation and assessment process

  Preferred

  1 year in healthcare

  PALS or ACLS

  State approved IV course certification.
