It focuses on patients with renal disorders and those under Hospitalist care. There are many stroke and diabetic patients as well as medical patients with a renal diagnosis, patients undergoing surgical or diagnostic renal procedures, patients receiving hemodialysis, or continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis, post ICU or step-down transfer patients whose primary diagnosis is renal related and medical patients admitted to the unit under Hospitalist care.PURPOSE OF POSITION:The primary purpose of the Licensed Practice Nurse - to provide direct patient care, provide patient and family teaching, and work cooperatively within the interdisciplinary health care team in maintaining standards of nursing care under the direction of the registered nurse and within the framework of the Ohio Nurse Practice Act.QUALIFICATION:Graduate of an accredited School of NursingCurrent licensure to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the state of OhioIV certifiedCurrent BLS certificationDemonstrate proficiency in basic nursing service, knowledge, and skillsDemonstrate knowledge of evidence-based practiceMAJOR TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Collects comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or the situationIdentifies and reports changes in patients' status to Registered Nurse for evaluationDocuments nursing activities accurately and in a timely mannerImplements the identified plan, coordinates care delivery, and employs strategies to promote health and a safe environment under the direction of the Registered NurseAdministers treatments and other direct carePrepares and administers medications as prescribedAdministers peripheral IV medications as prescribed within the scope of licensure under the supervision of the Registered nurseObserves and evaluates residents' responses to medicationsIdentifies and promptly communicates adverse drug reactions to the Registered NurseCollects specimens as orderedInteracts with and contributes to the professional development of peers and colleaguesCollaborates with patient, family, and others in the conduct of nursing practiceIntegrates ethical provisions in all areas of practiceThe above statements reflect the general duties considered necessary to describe the principle functions of the job as identified, and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the position.All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, disability, or veteran status.WORKING CONDITIONS:Working hours vary according to departmental needs.Works under the direct supervision of an RN.Lunch and break periods will be assigned by the Charge RN.Requires full range of body motion which may include handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordinationRequires standing and walking for extended periods of timeRequires corrected vision and hearing to normal rangeMay require exposure to communicable disease, body fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other potentially hazardous conditions common to a clinical environment, such as risk of falls, strains, etc.Subject to frequent interruptions and changes in priority of duties throughout the day.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS ADDENDUMO = Occasionally = 0- 33% of the work shift or 0- 32 repetitions.F = Frequently = 34-66% of the work shift or 32-200+ repetitions.C = Constantly = 67-100% of the work shift or 200+ repetitions.N = Not essential job requirement.C
