　　Hybrid Role

　　As a Linux Systems Engineer you will have the opportunity to closely collaborate with Engineering and IT organizations to build out and test Nutanix products. You would work in a setting where we tend to solve problems by using automation as much as possible, and therefore you will have exposure to modern technologies like containerization, automation platforms, and various operating system distros.

　　Linux Systems Engineering team

　　The Linux Systems Engineering team is in charge of everything related to Linux systems in the corporate IT network of Nutanix. Team members are valued for their individual contributions, thus everyone has a lot of autonomy in everyday work. The team is distributed across different regions of the globe, achieving great diversity of ideas, while maintaining healthy collaboration.

　　Your role:

　　Linux Systems administration, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and monitoring.

　　Work closely with the business to understand requirements and to develop technical specifications & solutions.

　　Take over the maintenance and administration of custom tools written by in-house engineers, and define requirements for current and future tools development.

　　Automate as many processes as possible, writing tools, scripts, etc. as necessary.

　　Provide technical solutions that are sustainable, supportable, & scalable.

　　Fully understand the current system’s architecture and suggest new solutions.

　　Leverage cost-effective 3rd party solutions (open source or commercial) were financially beneficial to do so.

　　End-user support for server infrastructure and development environments.

　　Proactive monitoring of systems and applications.

　　Participate in long-term strategies for IT & Engineering Operations.

　　On-call as needed with participation in 24X7 support.

　　What you’ll bring:

　　3+ years’ experience working as a Linux Systems Admin/Engineer.

　　Virtualization (VMware and/or KVM).

　　Scripting & automation skills (Shell and/or Python).

　　Exposure to containerization technologies (Preferably Kubernetes).

　　Exposure to Server-related technologies (e.g. backups, high availability, disaster recovery.).

　　Some experience with performance monitoring, tuning, troubleshooting, and Networking (TCP/IP, IP ROUTING, SSH/SFTP/SCP, DNS, NFS, CIFS, SSL, HTTP, SMTP, etc.).

　　Configuration Management (Salt preferred but open to Ansible, Puppet, or Chef).

　　Knowledge of database technologies and security best practices is a plus.

　　Experience with GitOps, large production containerization support, web technologies, application servers and REST APIs is also a plus.

　　Ryan Cook came to Nutanix with 20+ years of IT experience both as an individual contributor and leader. Ryan found Nutanix as a customer while at a healthcare organization in Texas and used Nutanix products to simplify his company's IT infrastructure. He believes in the Nutanix product and finally joined the Nutanix team in 2022. Ryan is an avid audiophile and classic car enthusiast, but also enjoys a good novel while unwinding. Most of all Ryan enjoys his team and the fantastic contributions we make each day to Nutanix.

　　All team members have the liberty to choose their work location. Some prefer remote work, while others like to work from the office, and from time to time the whole group meets in person. Everyone has a lot of autonomy in their everyday work, but also we strive to stay connected and provide help to each other whenever needed.
