Purpose of the Role: The Lifeguard Director is responsible for providing a friendly, enthusiastic and fun camping experience foryouth. The Lifeguard Director performs professional duties in ensuring effective performance of lifeguard functions. Assists intraining and appraising lifeguards and ensures that lifesaving certifications are current and that all lifeguards are fully competentin performing water rescue procedures.Supervision: The Lifeguard Director will be under indirect supervision of the Education Director, Education Specialist and workclosely with the camp Summer Staff Director on a daily basis.Key Responsibilities:Performs all lifeguard responsibilities including monitoring swimming activities, applying first aid, and performingwater rescues as necessaryEnsures that swimmers are well supervised in and around the waterFills in for lifeguards as necessaryOrients new lifeguards to job duties and responsibilities and ensures that all lifeguards are current on their trainingand certificationsAssists with scheduling lifeguard certification courses for staffRotate lifeguard responsibilities among summer staffTeach or assist with camp programs and encourage camper participationExhibit personal habits, health, dress, speech, table etiquette and relationships with other staff that serve as abeneficial model to campersWork with the summer staff to resolve difficulties with outdoor swimmingKeep all equipment clean and in good working condition, properly stored and used only for the intended purposesEstablish good relations with all youth members, staff and vendors associated with camp and promote the FarmersUnion Camp whenever appropriateEnsure security, integrity and confidentiality of data and informationOther duties as assignedKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:Previous NDFU Summer Staff experiencePossess effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skillsAbility to meet deadlines and provide weekly updatesAbility to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction tosummer staff and campersMental ability to observe summer staff and camper behavior; assess appropriateness, enforce appropriate safetyregulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniquesPhysical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid by assisting campers in an emergency (fire,evacuation, illness, or injury)Educational Requirements:The Lifeguard Director shall have a high school diploma or equivalentThe Lifeguard Director is required to obtain CPR, First Aid and Lifeguard certification and compensatedParticipation in staff training, including Leadership Training Camp is required and compensatedWorking Conditions:Occasional travelStrict seasonal schedule; day, evening and weekend work
