  Lecturer or Senior Lecturer (John S. Knight Institute)

  The John S. Knight Institute for Writing in the Disciplines seeks a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer (rank will commensurate with experience) to join our highly collaborative and congenial environment. Knight faculty-renewable, non-tenure-track Lecturers-teach writing seminars, assist students in our Writing Workshop, and contribute to the Knight Institute's mission of supporting diverse writers and teachers of writing at Cornell University. Cornell's founding principle is "any person, any study."

  Responsibilities: Knight faculty perform a mix of teaching and administrative or outreach roles. Our new colleague will be primarily responsible for teaching introductory undergraduate writing seminars to underprepared students, students with learning differences/disabilities, and international and multilingual writers. Other courses could include: First-Year Writing Seminars in the candidate's field, and possibly upper-level expository writing courses. They may also participate in our training programs for graduate instructors and teaching assistants, and consult with faculty on teaching academic writing to students with a broad range of abilities and experiences within Cornell's colleges. The position includes the expectation of periodic summer teaching and mentoring. Summer work involves additional compensation.

  Qualifications: As a writing-in-the-disciplines program, we are interested in candidates from any discipline who are able to demonstrate a strong record of excellence in teaching academic writing, especially among multilingual, international, neurodiverse, or otherwise under-represented students. Qualified candidates should demonstrate the capacity to build on our existing relationships with programs that support a wide range of underrepresented groups. Expertise in additional areas such as assessment, multiple literacies, and/or digital communication would be welcome. A Ph.D. is preferred.

  Terms of Employment: The successful candidate will be appointed to an academic-year position as a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer with a teaching load that is equivalent to 3 courses each semester; actual responsibilities will likely be a mix of administration, teaching, and consulting. Lecturers are hired for renewable three-year terms and are eligible for promotion to Senior Lecturer after six years of service. Senior lecturers are hired for renewable five-year terms. The position has a strong benefits package.

  The appointment contract will begin July 1, 2024.

  Pay Range: $49,700 - $164,000 Actual salary offers in the College of Arts and Sciences will be based on education, experience, discipline, and relevant skills.
