  Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking a candidate to fill a full time Lead Utility Coordinator position out of our Indianapolis, IN or Louisville, KY office. Our new team member will lead our INDOT focused utility coordination staff on a variety of projects and will be expected to take a leading role in the advancement of Hanson's technical abilities and serve as a technical leader in the area of utility coordination. This position provides leadership opportunities related to developing new business, task and project management, and helping to grow the existing team.   Position Profile

  This position will work within our Infrastructure Market in the Roadway Discipline on utility coordination activities for state and local roadway and bridge projects. Position requires the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and execute projects for a variety of clients including the Indiana Department of Transportation and local government agencies throughout Indiana. It is important that this position can support project teams from initial planning through design and construction. Projects are likely to include reconstruction or rehabilitation of major interstates and highways, urban and rural roadways as well as bridge rehabilitation or replacement projects. This is a mid to senior level position for someone looking to build a team and grow a service line.

  A Day in Life of a Utility Coordinator at Hanson

  Our Utility Coordination staff are responsible for all work related to coordinating utilities on a highway or bridge project. The Utility Coordinator is responsible for initially determining what utility companies are in the project area, then communicating and coordinating with those utilities throughout the project. You will work with a state transportation agency or a local government client, the design team, and all utility companies that have facilities located within the project footprint to determine if conflicts exist between the proposed improvement and the utilities and then coordinate the relocation activities.

  Here’s a snapshot of what you would do in this role:

  Provide direction and mentoring to utility coordination and support staff.

  Assist with project/contract proposals and presentations for project pursuits.

  Assist in development of scope/fee documents required for technical tasks.

  Explore opportunities to expand our existing client base.

  Stay up to date with utility coordination processes, forms, training, and utility tracking applications.

  Research utility records and visit project sites to determine presence of utility facilities.

  Get available existing utility information into our CADD system.

  Send out initial verification, conflict analysis, and work plan request letters.

  Determine if Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Services are needed to find the depth of existing utilities, and process SUE request with the client.

  Review work plans.

  Attend preliminary and final field check meetings.

  Send approved work plans and notice to proceed to relocate utilities.

  Assist the client in developing permits for utility relocation work.

  Coordinate utility reimbursement agreements.

  Write the Utility Special Provision and complete the Utility Coordination Certification.

  Upload all required documentation to the Utility Tracking Application.

  Prepare master relocation plan and Gantt chart for utility relocations.

  Act as liaison between the utility companies and the client, answering questions, interpreting plans, and be pro-active in facilitating that the utility relocations are occurring in accordance with the utility ‘s work plan.

  What We’re Looking For

  We feel the following qualifications would set you up for success in this role:

  Technical Skills:

  Understanding of the INDOT Utility Coordination Process and State Statues that govern it.

  Possess INDOT Utility Coordinator Certification.

  Understanding of the INDOT project development process.

  Experience with utility coordination processes outside of Indiana is a plus.

  Ability to read and interpret construction plans.

  Ability to serve as the Utility Coordinator for multiple projects.

  Ability to use Bluebeam, MicroStation or AutoCAD a plus.

  Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.

  Soft Skills:

  Ability to communicate technical concepts to engineers, clients, and public stakeholders.

  Experience with building effective relationships amongst internal and external client bases.

  Excellent project team and client-facing communication skills.

  Comfortable with supervising and mentoring staff in remote locations.

  Interest in experiencing a variety of assignments is important.

  Education/Experience:

  B.S. in engineering or related field.

  Must possess a valid driver’s license.

  Plusses include:

  Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Indiana or the ability to obtain within 6 months.

  INDOT Certified Railroad Coordinator, or willingness to obtain Certification.
