Position:Lead Truck Driver
Report to:Equipment Operations Manager
Position Description Overview
Lead Driver will substitute for the drivers of open routes, supporting drivers to complete routes, and provides other operational support as directed by the DOT Logistics Coordinator, which will include training new drivers, retraining, and follow up training of current drivers. Mentors new drivers, participates in routing projects and other developmental programs.
Responsibilities
Provides On-the-Job training of new drivers and retrains drivers who have been re-assigned or drivers who have driving performance issues.
Observes and coaches’ drivers to ensure proper and consistent safety and performance duties are achieved.
Operates vehicle in accordance with Kwest Groups policies and procedures, OSHA (Occupational and Safety Health Act) and DOT (Department of Transportation) requirements as well as all local, state, and federal laws.
Performs pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle and documents checks utilizing the standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report)
Immediately reports all unsafe situations or service-related issues to DOT Logistics Coordinator.
Attends and participates in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required by Kwest Group or directed by the Equipment Operations Manager.
Works closely with DOT Logistics Coordinator to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.
Notifies DOT Logistics Coordinator of any incidents, accidents, injures, or property damage.
Communicates customer requests to DOT Logistics Coordinator.
Travel to and from the various job sites as needed, including overnight stays and out of town travel.
Any other duties as requested.
Education and Qualifications
This position requires quality workmanship and competence in performing the tasks associated, as well as the ability to communicate issues and needs to your supervision.
CDL “A” driver’s license.
8 years Tractor Trailer experience, to include at least 8 years equipment moving experience.
Health & Safety regulations and procedures including proper lifting techniques.
Accurate record keeping
Basic computer skills/HCSS
DOT regulations as needed to operate and maintain heavy duty road trucks.
Have a strong mechanical background
A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and organized work habits allowing unsupervised work.
A commitment to the concept of "doing it right the first time."
Working Conditions
Travel from site to site will be required. Work environment will normally be an active construction site. Exposure to dust, noise, high heat, extreme cold, and rain should be expected.
Employee must be physically able to perform repetitive motion and heavy lifting, as described below. Must be able to maintain effective audio and visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties.
Physical Demands
Must wear all employer-mandated personal protective equipment, including hard hat, safety glasses, ear plugs, safety vests, and safety-toed work boots. Other PPE may be required from time to time depending on special safety concerns. All PPE will be provided by the company at no cost to the employee, other than safety boots.
Must be able to hear with or without the use of a hearing device and clearly see at least 30 feet with or without the use of corrective vision lens.
Must be able work while wearing a respirator if necessary.
Alternate standing and walking on uneven terrain surfaces, such as hillsides, muddy and icy soils, and other working surfaces. Safe negotiation of all types of surface conditions will always be required.
Bending, squatting and kneeling will be required frequently during a workday.
Constant pushing and pulling of certain tools and materials will be required in the course of a day’s work.
The employee must be able to differentiate and / or identify colors.
Must have knowledge of occupational hazards in this field and standard safety practices. Must be able to pass the 10 Hour OSHA testing and first aid – CPR requirements before starting work.
Must complete and meet requirements under the physical demands of this job description through a fitness for duty examination.
Within one year, employee must be able to obtain OSHA 30-hour status. All training will be provided by the company.
