Media Engineering
Media Engineering is an innovative organization that is focused on providing the best possible video playback experience, art, and metadata to customers around the world, powered by exceptional technology. This strategic work requires streamlining and repurposing technology across different business and distribution channels – including streaming, linear, and theatrical – so that technology can ebb and flow across the needs of the business.
Disney Entertainment and ESPN Technology is looking for a Lead Software Engineer to join the Acquisition team within the Media Engineering organization! As the gateway to our platform, we play a pivotal role in onboarding content partners onto our media supply chain, orchestrating the seamless ingest of source media and metadata and reshaping them to standardize interactions. Moreover, we are actively constructing a unified acquisition ecosystem set to power all Disney streaming products. This position requires a keen eye for innovation and creative thinking as we navigate diverse content formats and delivery specifications. As you help us build the foundational aspects of our streaming services, you ensure a lasting impact in a domain critical to the Disney Streaming Platform's success!
Responsibilities
Lead a software engineering team to craft, build, deliver and operate software services that acquire, categorize, process and distribute Disney’s media catalog.
Partner multi-functionally with neighboring engineering teams.
Work on code base by writing and reviewing software.
Lead technical feasibility, implementation approach, deployment strategies, and QA efforts.
Establish engineering processes within the team to drive quality and excellence.
Help grow a culture of quality, innovation and experimentation.
Mentor or coach team members; recruit and help hire versatile software engineers.
Basic Qualifications:
BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related software engineering field or equivalent practical experience
Minimum of 7 years related experience crafting backend architectures and delivering large-scale backend applications in a production environment.
You're practical and personable, with a succinct communication style
Experience building multiple concurrent projects of high technical complexity
Ability to work in a dynamic 24x7 availability environment
Proficient in using cloud infrastructure such as AWS, GCP, Azure.
Experience in programming with Java and proficient with one or more general purpose programming languages (Java, Scala, Python, Javascript, etc)
Experience with frontend development is a plus

The hiring range for this position in Seattle, WA and in New York City, NY is $156, 292 to $209, 660 per year; the hiring range for this position in Santa Monica/Burbank/Glendale/L.A., California and in Bristol, Connecticut is $149, 240 to $200, 200; and the hiring range for this position in San Francisco, California is $163, 426 to $219, 230 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
