ManTech is seeking a Landscape Herbicide Technician to support habitat restoration projects, primarily in remote, wildland settings on Vandenberg Space Force Base, CA and occasionally on Naval Base Ventura County San Nicolas Island, CA.
Responsibilities:
The Technician will work independently and under supervision of project leaders on a broad array of habitat restoration projects to:
Remove non-native invasive plants primarily via chemical and manual methods.
Install native outplantings.
Install and maintain irrigation systems.
Collect accurate data on smart phones.
Navigate using GPS.
Use handheld power equipment such as chain saws and brush cutters.
Mix and apply herbicide with backpack and/or boom sprayers.
Drive 4WD and trailered loads.
Identify maintenance needs of equipment, e.g., pumps, engines, trailers, vehicles, etc.
This is a highly physical position working in remote settings.
The candidate must work well with people as part of a field crew who work on chemical, mechanical and physical removal of a broad array of California invasive plant species in a variety of habitats such as coastal dune, coastal scrub, chaparral, wetland and riparian settings.
Experience:
Applicants must have enthusiasm for working outdoors and the ability to carry heavy loads (up to 50 lbs.).
Field technicians may encounter typical field hazards such as poison oak, ticks, and other nuisance species.
Work vehicles are provided for travel to work sites throughout Vandenberg Space Force Base.
Landscape Herbicide Technicians are based out of Lompoc, CA and work an Alternative Work Week (AWW) schedule: Monday – Thursday, 10-hour days.
This is a non-exempt position that reports to the Invasive Plant Field Manager. Full benefits (e.g., medical, vision, dental, retirement, etc.).
Qualifications:
Ability to pass a background investigation
High School diploma
1+ years of work experience in landscape maintenance herbicide application, agriculture, or similar
Ability to take two tests to obtain a CA Dept. of Pesticide Regulations (DPR) Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC); however, applicants with a current QAC or Qualified Applicator License (QAL) are preferred
Chainsaw experience
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Ability to drive 4WD trucks with trailers
Ability to use smart phone/GPS/mobile application technologies
The projected compensation range for this position is $39,700-$65,300. There are differentiating factors that can impact a final salary/hourly rate, including, but not limited to, Contract Wage Determination, relevant work experience, skills and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location (For Remote Opportunities), education and certifications as well as Federal Government Contract Labor categories.
