Summary This position is located with Chena Bend Golf Course on Fort Wainwright, Alaska. Responsibilities Perform heavy physical labor requiring the frequent lifting and carrying of items and furniture weighing 80 to 100 pounds or more. Tasks include ground maintenance on grades and slopes, digging ditches and trenches, washing buildings using high pressure sprayers, operating tillers to prepare lawns for sod and bedding plants, and cutting trees using axes or chain saws. Performs general maintenance of NAF facilities requiring use of heavy powered equipment and heavy tools. Resets nails, replaces hardware, relocate playgrounds, flowerbeds and portable structures. Advises facility director of potential safety hazards and identifies repairs required. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Six (6) month of laboring experience required. Must be able to work under general supervision, responding to initial oral or written instructions and completing assigned tasks. Knowledge of the processes, which require remembering directions and/or sequences be, required (e.g., mixing cement). Knowledge and skill in the operation, control, and cleaning of heavy, power equipment (single-function power lawn mowers with one or more cutting decks and mechanical controls, chain saws, jackhammers). Knowledge to work safely with heavy tools (axes, picks, tampers, chain saws, etc). Skill in performing routine operator maintenance and adjusting the cutting height of blades of power mowers or in operating weight handling devises when moving heavy loads. FWS Allowances and Differentials This is a federal wage schedule (FWS) position. All FWS employees are entitled to overtime work for work in excess of 8 hours in a day or in excess of 40 hours in the administrative workweek, whichever provides the greater benefit to the employee. Regular full-time, regular part-time (to include those in a limited tenure appointment category) and regularly scheduled flexible employees are entitled to Sunday premium pay when working Sunday shifts. A FWS employee will be paid a night shift differential of 7.5% for the entire shift when a majority of the employee's regularly scheduled non-overtime hours of work occur between the hours of 1500 and 2400. A FWS employee will be paid a night shift differential of 10% of the scheduled rate if a majority of the employee's regularly scheduled non-overtime hours of work occur between the hours of 2300-0800.
