SUMMARY:
We are seeking aLaboratory Assistantto join our Community Clinics team. This full time role will work days (start times fall between 8 and 9 AM). This is a float position float between our clinics: Brooklyn Park, Clinic and Specialty Center, East Lake, Golden Valley, Richfield, and Whittier.
Purpose of this position:Under general supervision, performs work that involves collecting and/or processing laboratory specimens, entering data into the electronic health record (EHR) and/or the laboratory information system (LIS). Interacts and communicates with patients, their families, and members of the healthcare team by using various communication tools in a timely and professional manner
RESPONSIBILITIES:**
Ambulatory (Community Clinics/CSC)
Assists in maintaining supplies and helping with inventoryAssists with training of new staff members and studentsPerforms standard procedures for the collection of laboratory samples including but not limited to: o Patient identification o Venipuncture collection o Capillary collection o Urine collection o Documentation of collection in the Laboratory Information System (LIS)Reviews and releases patient laboratory orders in the electronic health record (EHR)Reviews, orders, and collects patient laboratory orders from an outside facility according to standard operating proceduresProperly processes and distributes specimens following collectionExplains collection processes and procedures to patients, customers, and their familiesPrepares specimens for send out to reference laboratory (HHS Main Campus), including properly labeling, aliquoting of specimens, and any associated LIS documentation (transfer lists)Prepares, performs, and documents select testing according to standard operating procedures for which they have received applicable training and supervisor approval to performQUALIFICATIONS:/**/
/Minimum Qualifications:/
High school diploma or GED -OR-
An approved equivalent combination of education and experience/Preferred Qualifications:/
Certified or certified-eligible with a nationally accredited phlebotomy association -OR-
Completion of ten quarter credits of biology or chemistry college courses -OR-
Six Months of experience in a clinical laboratory setting/Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:/
