JOB REQUIREMENTS: Overview Provides patient care by collecting andprocessing samples and performing clinical laboratory procedures. Workat other Mercy facilities performing the same functions, as required.Work alternate shifts, weekends and holidays as needed to adequatelyprovide services. Perform other duties and projects as assigned.Responsibilities Collect patient specimens. Utilize the InformationSystem to receive patients, order and collect samples, result tests,answer questions from nurses and physicians, document quality controlactivities and produce reports required to perform job tasks. Confirmsaccuracy of patient sample identification prior to performing analyses;evaluates specimen quality and identifies when unacceptable. Documentsinformation concerning quality of specimen, impact of sub-optimalspecimens on test values. Initiates recollection procedure as indicated.Perform waived and moderate complexity lab tests as defined by CLIA byautomated and manual methods according to defined policies andprocedures. Analyze test results prior to release of information tochart for validity and accuracy. Assure that designated turnaround timesfor results are met and that critical results are appropriately reportedand documented. Performs quality control and proficiency testingprocedures as defined by policy. Interpret and troubleshoot qualitycontrol results to ensure accurate and precise test results. Performspreventative maintenance, minor troubleshooting and calibration oflaboratory instrumentation. Maintain competency in current proceduresand gain competency for new methods implemented. Education andExperience Must be qualified to perform moderate complexity testingaccording to CLIA 493.1423 Standard; Testing personnelqualifications. 1. Have earned a doctoral, master\'s or bachelor\'sdegree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratoryscience, or medical technology from an accredited institution or 2. Haveearned an associate degree in a laboratory science, or medicallaboratory technology from an accredited institution or 3. High schoolgraduate or equivalent and successfully completed military training of50 or more weeks and served as a medical laboratory specialist or 4.High school diploma or equivalent and appropriate training/experienceCertification/Licensure (Outreach Lab only) - For those drivingMercyhealth vehicles: Maintain a valid driver\'s license.
