JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:The Penn State College of Medicine, Center for Cannabis and Natural Product Pharmaceutics, in Hershey, PA, is seeking to hire a Lab Coordinator - Life Sciences at the Advanced Professional level. This position will be primarily responsible for overseeing two facilities: a pain-based behavior "core" and receptor activity "core" within the center. This includes developing novel pain assessments based upon those reported in the literature and utilizing already established models in the center. The candidate should be able to effectively resolve routine problems and will be responsible for working with the center leadership to coordinate projects and goals related to pain.
Additional responsibilities will include, but not limited to, assisting with IACUC protocols regarding pain assays for center members, serve as a safety officer for the center (ensuring all safety procedures are being followed regarding animal handling), mentor rotation students and graduate students on pain assays, maintain a list of available resources, develop cell-based reporter assays for cannabinoids/natural products, and assist with the preparation of grants, manuscripts, and progress updates for grants. Assistance with supply ordering and budgeting may also be required. This position will also likely be responsible for maintaining a small colony of genetically engineered mice, which will include breeding, genotyping, and colony size management.
This position requires 3+ years of experience, a bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry or other life science related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience or knowledge of cannabinoids (and other schedule I substances), mouse models of pain, and animal husbandry is preferred.
This is a limited-term position funded for one year from date of hire, withpossibility of refunding.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:$46,400.00 - $67,300.00
