Description of Work Unit
The Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President is responsible for providing the academic vision and leadership to fulfill the University’s land-grant mission. The work unit articulates, communicates, and facilitates the development of fundamental values basic to the University’s mission and administers academic programs and policies. It oversees the academic programming and faculty affairs on campus, as well as provides oversight for the division of student affairs.

TheKey Communities (https://key.lc.colostate.edu/) create and nurture inclusive environments that welcome, value and affirm diverse identities of students in order to facilitate student learning and foster successful l transitions. Key Communities are learning communities for first year, second year, and continuing students designed to honor the identities and strengths of students while fostering successful student transitions. The Key Communities are one of the most diverse communities on campus, with most of the students identifying as racially-minoritized and/or first generation to college and/or limited-income and are committed to creating and nurturing inclusive environments that welcome, value and affirm the diverse identities of our students.
The Key Communities is a collaborative effort, which leverages several strategic programs and offices, all of which focus on educational equity and includes the Access Center, Academic Advancement Center, Community for Excellence and Student Diversity Programs and Services.
Position Summary
The Key Community Manager is responsible for providing leadership coordinating a community and serving as the point of contact for both the Key Plus Community of approximately 76 second-year and continuing students and a group of approximately 95 first-year students in the Key Communities, the majority of whom identify as first-generation, limited-income, and/or racially minoritized at Colorado State University. The Key Community Manager is responsible for supporting and mentoring first-year, second year and continuing students, which includes the critical areas of implementing intervention systems, program development, academic success, career development while promoting student retention and graduation. The Key Community Manager is responsible for the supervision of a diverse group of student staff, who serve as the primary point of contact for Key students. The Key Community Manager oversees the management of the Key Plus Community and five first-year Key clusters, leading Key student staff training, Key Plus recruitment, and supporting the goals of the team and department independently and in collaboration with other staff. The Key Community Manager is responsible for co-leading projects and initiatives that span all the Key Community Programs. The Key Community Manager is expected to work independently in developing and implementing both the Key Plus community and first year Key Community clusters, as well as serve as a member of the staff team to ensure program goals are in line with intended goals and philosophy of the Key Communities, Student Success, and Colorado State University.
This position reports to the Assistant Director for Student Engagement and Community Development within the Key Communities.
Required Job Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of 3 years full-time professional experienceORMaster’s Degree with 1 year experience in student services in higher education or related field by start of employment
Experience working with programs whose primary purpose and mission is to support underrepresented students in higher education such as TRIO , Multicultural Affairs or the equivalent
Preferred Job Qualifications
Demonstrated understanding of structural inequities facing historically marginalized student groups in higher education
Experience hiring, training, supervising, coaching and evaluating undergraduate student staff
Experience working independently and creatively to build new program elements
Excellent communication skills, including interpersonal communication skills, presentation skills, and writing skills
Demonstrated experience organizing and implementing programs with an attention to detail
Understanding of student development theory and second-year and continuing student transitional issues
Bi-lingual with fluency in Spanish

Duty/Responsibility
Manage and implement all aspects of a Key Community of up to 76 second year and continuing students and up to 95 first-year students, many of whom identify as racially minoritized, first- generation, and limited income, including:
Programming and Community Building
Management and implementation all aspects of the Key Community, including building a culture that welcomes, values and affirms the diverse identities of Key students through activities, signature programs, and events.
Plan and implement leadership and career development activities; promote an ethic of involvement.
Student Recruitment and Selection
Development and implementation of the vision and strategic plan for the Key Plus recruitment and outreach efforts from an asset-based approach.
Create, maintain, and update the timeline for primary communication sources, including website, brochures, and electronic communication.
Oversee and implement the electronic application process.
o Collaborate with University Housing to coordinate the room selection in both the Key Communities designated spaces in Residence Halls and University Apartments process for Key Plus students.
Conduct welcome phone calls to students admitted to Key Plus; respond to phone calls from families and students; plan and implement Key Plus orientation and welcome.
Actively contribute to all processes related to equitable student recruitment efforts including supporting recruitment and outreach events, reviewing submissions of interest, tracking student participants throughout the recruitment process, completing welcome phone calls for first-year Key Community students.
Facilitate equitable Ram Orientation recruitment processes by leading Key Communities information sessions, managing Key course selection, and engaging with students and parents/families at the resource fair.
Faculty and College Connection
Development of Key course offerings by collaborating with seminar faculty to develop interdisciplinary seminars.
Consult with faculty on issues facing student participants, meet with faculty to co-supervise the Key student staff as a course liaison in the Seminar class.
Provide evaluation feedback on Key Seminar Faculty performance.
Assessment
Assist with the development and coordinate the collection of data related to program goals, learning outcomes, retention and academic performance.
Share the impact of the Key Communities with internal and external audiences.
Conduct qualitative research to inform the Key Plus program model.
Research and implement later year’s initiatives.

Supervise a staff of up to 10 Key Student Staff from an identity conscious and strengths-based approach.
Meet weekly, and as needed, on an individual basis with Key Student Staff to assess the cultural, academic, personal, and social experiences of students and develop appropriate plans to meet students where they are at.
Coach Key Student Staff on strategies to develop a welcoming and affirming community inclusive of students with institutionally underserved identities.
Plan and implement weekly Key Student Staff meetings based on the cultural, academic, and social needs of the community and student participants.
Participate in Key Student Staff hiring, including development of hiring processes, application review, interview processes, and hiring decisions.
Provide ongoing feedback and evaluation to Key Student Staff including semester and end of year evaluations through an identity conscious and strengths-based approach.
Oversee and approve Time Clock Plus submissions for Key Student Staff.

Provide intentional asset-based outreach to students facing academic difficulty by getting them connected to academic resources or meeting with the student regularly.
Maintain accurate and detailed student contact notes using web-hosted applications and local database.
Connect students to offices and resources that promote an ethic of involvement and foster a sense of belonging.
Support students on academic probation by coaching peer mentors on how to work with students using an asset-based approach, meeting with students individually as needed, and being knowledgeable of campus resources and support.
Support CSU goals in serving Students Recommended with Support.
Oversee the implementation of Academic Progress Conferences (also known as Early Grade Feedback) to meet the unique needs of second year and continuing students.
Coordinate and implement academic programs and skills workshops/seminars for students by working in conjunction with the Academic Advancement Center, Scholar Success Programs, Diversity Programs and Service, The Institute for Learning and Teaching, and other departments on campus.
Support students in crisis from a strengths-based approach by working with student conduct services, case management, University Housing staff, academic success coordinators, and other campus departments.
Provide coaching and support for students navigating conduct processes through the Student Resolution Center.
Provide appropriate referrals to university resources, including but not limited to Student Disability Center, Student Case Management, Office of Financial Aid, Health Network, etc.

Build new partnerships with campus Departments and Colleges to support the Key program goals with special attention to developing high impact practices that support the Student Success Initiative goals.
Coordinate with University Housing to support inclusive community development and individual students’ academic and personal well-being; meet bi-weekly with Residence Hall staff. Coordinate with Off-Campus Life to support the overall development of Key Plus students living off-campus.
Participate in campus-wide committees as appropriate; serve as an ambassador for the Key Communities at campus and community events.
Collaborate with the Community for Excellence network, the Academic
Advancement Center, Scholar Success Programs, Student Diversity Programs and Service, The Institute for Learning and Teaching, and other departments on campus to implement identity conscious, asset-based programs and workshops.
Facilitate the involvement of campus resource offices to support Key Community efforts.Program and Staff Development
Contribute to the development and implementation of a shared vision for the Key Communities team.
