Purpose:
*The School Social Worker helps PHCSE students develop the social skills necessary to cope with emotional and psychological disturbances that impact attendance, future orientation, and academic performance. *
Job Qualifications:
Masters of Social Work or Doctoral Degree required from an accredited institution
*PA School Social Worker Education Specialist Certificate from an accredited Council of Social Work Education (CSWE) program or an equivalent foreign qualification recognized by the CSWE Office of Social Work Accreditation (OSWA) *
Licensed social worker (LSW) or licensed clinical social worker (LCSW)
Minimum of three years experience in the field of social work in an educational setting

Job Responsibilities:

*School Social Worker *
Administer professional mental health support to the student body
Provide crisis counseling when a student has been reported to experience suicidal or self-harm ideology
*Conduct behavioral consultations with education staff in the classroom and regarding student disciplinary measures such as suspensions *
Conduct home visits to provide additional support as needed
Direct interventions
Supportive case work, including parent/caregiver education and self-advocacy
As a mandated reporter, contact Child, Youth and Families Office (CYF) and consult with CYF case managers
Consult with parents and parent organizations regarding school and outside services
Work with families and students to develop a plan for families to support their student's emotional well-being
Provide mental health referrals for further treatment if necessary.
Partner with Dean of Students to address bullying and conflict resolution in the school
Confer with teachers on classroom management challenges and to help them serve the needs of students receiving counseling
*Recordkeeping & Reporting *
In partnership with the School Counselor and School Psychologist, maintain a database of referrals made to health and human services for students and families.
As a mandated reporter, contact Child, Youth and Families Office (CYF) and consult with CYF case managers
Monthly documentation regarding home essness and preparation for state audits on homelessness when necessary
Maintains and continually updates a directory of referral services to be utilized in crisis situations affecting students.
Conduct all tasks associated with managing and reporting student truancy
Meetings & Professional Development
Attend Student Assistance Program (SAP) meetings
*Attend Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) meetings as needed. *
Participate in parent conferences, telephone conferences, and other forms of professional communication
Student Attendance Improvement Plan (SAIP) meetings
Involvement in at least one C.A.R.E. alignment committee is required, plus additional committees/task-forces as needed
As the School's Homeless Liaison, attend several meetings throughout the school year
As the School's Foster Care Point of Contact, attend school placement meetings and other meetings throughout the school year
*Provide training to staff and students on the Safe2Say Something youth violence prevention program, focusing specifically on recognizing the warning signs and speaking up before it is too late *
Provide professional development and other training to staff relating to mental health and behavior issues
Provide parents and families with workshops on child and adolescent growth and development
*Commitment to professional development to keep up-to-date in the field of social work in a school setting *
Commitment to professional growth through professional networking and development opportunities
Attend mandatory school events at the discretion of the employee's supervisor
Attend one Board Meeting and one PTA meeting per school year
*Active certifications, Act 48 continuing education, and continuing education as mandated by the state of PA and the National Association of Social Workers *
