Reference #: 2021070The Language Technologies Institute (LTI) within the School of Computer Science is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior System Administrator to join our growing infrastructure team. In this role, you will be responsible for building and maintaining the operational health of our compute infrastructure. Your scope of work will include implementing software deployments, hardware upgrades, and automation solutions to enhance our infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Linux-based systems, be proficient in scripting for automation, and possess a keen eye for troubleshooting both hardware and software issues. Your core responsibilities will include:Provide technical problem-solving and consulting for Linux-based systems.Perform OS upgrades, software deployments, and troubleshooting.Perform hardware upgrades and troubleshooting.Coordinate with end-users, plan maintenance, and ensure operational stability on a day-to-day basis.Develop automation solutions for manual tasks.Basic system administration, including user and group management, filesystem management, and process monitoring.Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:Associate's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience/certifications.1-3 years of demonstrated work experience.
Type of Required Experience:Working knowledge of Linux distributions (Ubuntu, CentOS, RHEL).Proficiency in command-line tools and shell scripting (bash, python, perl, etc.).Experience with at least one scripting language for automation (Ansible, Chef, Puppet).Familiarity with package management (apt/dpkg, yum/rpm, dnf).Understanding of network fundamentals, including IP addressing, subnets, and routing.Experience with network-attached storage.Ability to troubleshoot hardware and software issues.Familiarity with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI.
Additional Desirable Skills:Knowledge of RAID technologies and file systems (ZFS, NFS).Experience building software from source.Knowledge of HPC technologies (Slurm, CUDA, OpenCL).Familiarity with monitoring tools (nagios, prometheus).Familiarity with containerization and virtualization (Docker, Singularity/Apptainer).Understanding of basic security best practices (firewalls, SSH).Front-end website development skills with expertise in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Soft Skills:Problem-solving abilities.Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.Ability to communicate technical concepts to audiences of varying technical expertise.Ability to adapt and learn new technologies.Attention to detail.
