Longform Content Team (Learning RD Area):

As an engineer in the long-form content team, you’ll build technology that breaks down language barriers and makes it truly fun to learn. You’ll work on engaging, immersive experiences such as stories, duoradio that enable learners to use their language skills in the real world. In addition, you’ll help ensure that this content is ready for learners of all levels across dozens of languages. We’re looking for engineers who are passionate about building new features to further our mission of making education freely available to everyone.Monetization Area:

As an iOS engineer in the Monetization Area, you will work on our premium subscriptions—Super Duolingo and Duolingo Max—the key revenue drivers behind our business. Your contributions will touch on packaging, pricing, and hooks for our subscriptions, and game mechanics such as Hearts and Gems. We're seeking engineers who are passionate about bottom-line business impact, and who bring fresh insights and a creative technical approach.

The Monetization Area focuses on Duolingo's key business drivers—subscriptions, ads, and in-app purchases. Our area's goal is to build the best premium experiences for our learners while ensuring the sustainability and success of our business model. You will play an instrumental role in the strategic direction of Duolingo by developing and refining the methods that make our monetization efforts more effective and efficient.

Infrastructure Platform Area:

As an iOS engineer on Client Architecture, you will develop the technologies which underpin every single feature built at Duolingo. You will play a key role in evolving our architectural building blocks and driving forward their adoption through technologies like code generation and static analysis. Moreover, you will directly contribute to larger cross-cutting initiatives which impact the organization as a whole, such as reducing costs associated with every active user.

Design Lab Team:

As an iOS engineer in Design Lab, you will help explore emerging technologies like Rive 2D animation, 3D animation, and game engines. You'll play a role in building immersive and engaging features that enhance learner experience. We’re looking for engineers who love innovating and pushing creative boundaries.

Music Team:

As an iOS engineer on the Music team, you will help build the technology that changes how people around the world learn Music. The features that you ship will help learners to develop core music skills like sight reading and ear training in a fun, engaging way. We’re looking for engineers who love building new products and features and bring fresh ideas about teaching Music on mobile devices.

Collaborate on software projects with product design and backend aspects

Develop, release, and maintain native iOS applications, primarily in Swift

Mentor and set technical direction for junior engineers across the company

You have...

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field

A solid foundation in computer science with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design

Programming experience in Swift

Exceptional candidates will have...

A minimum of 5 years of programming experience in Swift

Strong technical knowledge of iOS mobile application development for iPhone/iPad using Swift with Cocoa Touch and related frameworks

Experience designing clean and maintainable APIs

Experience with multithreaded programming

Experience writing unit tests and testable code

Knowledge of iOS SDK performance tools and optimization techniques

We post a multi-level salary range for all of our roles.

This is not inclusive of the rest of our awesome portfolio that includes equity compensation and world-class benefits. Our salary ranges are the same for all US locations. Your recruiter can share more details about the range for a specific level during the hiring process. The actual salary within the range is determined by many factors including but not limited to, skills, experience, education, and internal equity.

Salary Range:

$148,800 — $274,600 USD
