About Investigative Analyst

  Summary This position is located in the Houston Field Office reporting to the Office of Field Office Management, Domestic Operations Directorate, Bureau of Diplomatic Security, U.S. Department of State. You will serve as Investigative Analyst specializing in criminal cases related to H&L class visas. Responsibilities Provides technical and analytical support to investigative personnel in planning, developing, and conducting visa-related criminal investigations of H&L visa criminal activity. Observes and advises criminal investigators of trends, findings, and events that surfaced during analytical reviews that provide for a definitive assessment of fraudulent activity. Assesses new developments, trends, and conflicts arising from the data collected and serves as the Department’s representative to intelligence communities. Conducts reviews and inspects geographical areas relating to the criminal intelligence program; conducts training sessions on the criminal intelligence programs and relevant topics surrounding passport and visa fraud. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Applicants must meet all the required qualification requirements described below by the closing date of this announcement. NOTE: Applicants must meet time-in-grade and time after competitive appointment requirements, by the closing date of this announcement. Time-In-Grade Requirements: Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions, per 5CFR 300, Subpart F. Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience researching, analyzing, compiling, and interpreting information from various sources to aid criminal investigations. Experience analyzing and evaluating passport and visa fraud trends and providing recommendations to management to assist with developing new investigative measures. Experience presenting information, drafting investigative reports, and summary documents to support investigative findings. There is no substitute of education for specialized experience for the GS-13 position. Education Education requirements do not apply to this vacancy announcement.
