The City of Billings is seeking an Inventory Control Specialist to perform a variety of storekeeping and clerical duties for multiple City Divisions; responsible for overall Inventory control; oversees Inventory functions; receives and issues materials, supplies, tools, parts, and equipment; and maintains an inventory and records system.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Orders, receives, ships, stores, and issues supplies, tools, repair parts, and equipment.- Purchases certain commodities within budgetary constraints and monetary limits established by Fleet Services Manager.- Makes independent judgments on purchases within purchasing policy guidelines.- Researches vendors and specifications for needed supplies and equipment to determine optimal combination of price, quality, and speed of availability.- Decides from which vendor to purchase items and the appropriate means of delivery.- Interviews vendors and obtains quotes if necessary.- Effectively communicates basic information with staff, public and vendors.- Prepares bids for parts and supplies.- Reconciles reports from data entry to ensure proper inventory and charges to user divisions.- Makes corrected accounting entries as necessary.- Maintains operation of warehouse/stockroom, including timely and adequate purchasing of needed supplies.- Maintains accurate inventory information.- Receives, unpacks, and stores goods and supplies in proper storage places.- Verifies incoming items against invoices and purchase orders.- Follows up on back orders.- Logs stock received.- Picks up and delivers parts and supplies as needed.- Provides front counter customer service for division and other City employees and vendors.- Performs routine clerical duties, such as typing, filing, and answering telephones.- Keeps records of goods received and issued.- Updates computer files in order to maintain accurate records of stock flows, equipment history, departmental charges, and future needs.- Consults with division employees on their specific needs in order to avoid production or service lags due to insufficient stock of supplies and equipment.- Takes and maintains inventories.- Determines stock levels for ordering and disposal.- Maintains and cleans the storeroom.- Operates complex computer systems and programs for purchasing and inventory control.Required Skills and Qualifications:- High school diploma or equivalent.- A minimum of two (2) years of specialized training beyond high school in automotive and heavy equipment parts warehousing, inventory control, and storeroom operations, or equivalent.- Must have strong interpersonal skills.- A valid Montana driver's license or must be obtained within thirty (30) days of employment.- Must be able to operate personal computers and be proficient with Microsoft Office and Fleet Inventory applications, or equivalent.- Must be forklift certified or must be obtained within thirty (30) days of employment.Salary Range: $18.2502 - $23.3437 per hour. Salary reflects Step 1 and Step 4 of a 7-step pay scale. Salary at hiring will be dependent upon the applicant's education, experience, and training.Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.Equal Opportunity Employer.
